Xbox One OS to be redesigned for Kinect’less controlling

Following on the news of an Xbox One package being prepped to ship without the Kinect sensor, Microsoft has now also confirmed that the Xbox One’s operating system will receive a makeover, with controllers in mind.

Xbox marketing lead Yusuf Mehdi told Engadget [via CVG] that the Xbox One was initially designed to work with Kinect, so the change calls for tweaking of the operating system.

“We do want to find ways to give you some of those shortcuts and make some of the things that we have with Kinect easier with the controller,” he explained.

“You can expect to see us do a bunch of things over the coming months to make the experience easier and easier, even if you don’t have a Kinect.”

Microsoft department head Phil Spencer insists that, despite the major policy reversal, Kinect still remains an important part of Microsoft’s vision for Xbox One.

We say, RIP Kinect.
