Xbox 720 To Arrive in 2012 – Edge

Tying in quite nicely with yesterday’s Next-Gen Xbox at CES 2012 [Rumour] comes information from Edge (via a source of course) that the next gen consoles (yes both the Xbox and PlayStation) will be out next year with the Xbox arriving first.

The source said that Ubisoft Montreal is currently working with next generation “target boxes based on the intended specifications of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 successor”, which is apparently PCs containing off-the-shelf components provided by Microsoft with AMD believed to be providing the GPU solution for the console.

Along with Ubisoft Montreal, several other major developers, including some EA studios, are also apparently in possession of these units.

The first genuine iteration of devkits running custom hardware is expected to be with the studios by the end of the year and indications are that the console itself will launch late 2012.

The site also reports that one major Sony-owned studio has stopped work on PS3 development and has moved its entire focus on to games for the PS3’s successor.
