Did you know that an ion is an atom or molecule in which the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons, giving the atom a net positive or negative electrical charge? Neither did we actually. But then we’re brain dead.
What we did know is that IoN Gaming perhaps come across as a clan a little unlikely to grab second spot in a tournament featuring South Africa’s best Black Ops 2 clans, and yet they did. They also managed to really capture the imagination of many viewers during the MWEB Black Ops 2 Super 8 over the weekend of 7 June, so it only makes complete and utter sense to make sure we follow up and ask them some pertinent questions. Clan leader, IoN Desolation obliged with some answers.
Firstly, well done on placing second in the recent Mweb Ladders Super 8. You guys certainly won over a lot of supporters. How was it for you guys?
We can’t even believe we got so far, it was amazing, the pressure was on us but we just went out and did our best.
Did you see yourselves as the underdogs going into the knockout phase?
No we didn’t, we knew exactly what we were capable of doing and wanted to prove to other clans exactly what that was.
Is this your first major tournament competed in?
How much time did you spend practicing in the run-up to the Super 8?
IoN Gaming doesn’t need practise, because we have the Dark Lord on our side
You obviously favour Black Ops 2 (until the next Call of Duty arrives we assume…) but is there any other game you enjoy as a clan?
When did the clan form, and what was the clan game of choice?
I think it was last year end of October just before Black Ops 2 got released.
How many members were there at the beginning?
How many members are you currently? Keen to give out their names, credit card details and ID numbers?
Alright, only Gamertags will do.
I’ll DM you their details We are 7 at the moment. IoN Demandred, IoN Mesaana, IoN Aphrodite, IoN Desolation, IoN Ganniicus, IoN Puppetmasta and SlugDrug.
What is the clan’s structure in terms of leadership?
Well I (Desolation) am the leader but we all have a say in every decision we make. We all decided what happens. Like a big family.
You are an Xbox 360 clan correct? Any plans to expand on to the PS3?
Yes. No, does it look like we have money to spend on another console?
What will be the plans when the next consoles launch? Or is that too far in the future?
We have no idea. We’ll have to see how things play out.
How often do you try to play together as a clan?
We rarely practise, but we’re always in parties talking shit.
Do you consider yourselves a serious competitive clan, or a “shits and giggles” clan? Or even a little of both?
A bit of both. More shits and giggles though.
Are you guys actively recruiting for new players? If so, how should a potential member contact you and how do you decide on who is right to join you?
No we are not. When we recruit, we approach the players we are interested in.
What are you hoping to achieve in the future as a clan?
We haven’t really discussed that.
In regards to professional – or competitive gaming – what do you as a clan think needs to be done to raise the profile of South African gaming?
More online comps, better organising of them, LANS etc. (I realise not everyone can make it to LAN events) but so far I’m enjoying what MWEB is doing for us, it’s helping a lot. Thank you. Keep it up.
Right, let’s have a little fun…
If you weren’t a gaming clan you’d be…
Successful business men.
War movie that best describes the clan – Platoon or Tropic Thunder?
Tropic Thunder for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you guys had a music soundtrack for going to war, what would it be?
Pokemon Theme song.
Thanks for your time – is there anything you would like to add before you head back out to do battle?
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII…….. Just lumin LOOOOOLLLLLZZZZ, Dark Lord knows no bounds…
Please note: Clan Q&A’s can be conducted up to five weeks before they are published so some information may already have changed.
