Undead Ed… sees a bad moon rising. He sees trouble on the way. He suggests you don’t go around tonight, ‘cos it’s bound to take your life, because (apparently) there’s a bad moon on the rise.
Now we are 99% sure he didn’t come up with all that on his own* but he was so passionate when he got started we just wanted to enjoy his quite frankly off-pitch rasping voice – so we could record it and put it on Youtube of course. Anyway, as you all know our Undead Ed has a penchant for mishearing pretty much every third word one of us say, which statistically meant he was almost always going to get Crimson Moon Rising at least one third wrong…
Why not ‘Bad Moon Rising’?
Well the ‘Crimson Moon’ stems from the Crimson Omen found in the Gears of War series. GOW was the game that brought us together as clan and what better way to describe the rising of our new clan than that of the Rising Crimson? And we’re not that bad either.

When did the clan form and how many members were you at the beginning?
Dates are a bit fuzzy but the founding members if you like got together for the first time during the GOW3 Beta back in April of 2011. We then played GOW2 together until GOW3 proper came out and then officially formed as a clan in November 2011 for the DGL GOW3 Cup.
How many members are you currently? Keen to give out their names, credit card details and ID numbers? Alright, only Gamertags will do.
Currently we have 15 active members…

Some of the players in the clan have been around a while haven’t they? Have they come from other clans?
Most have been around for awhile but to my knowledge only 2 have moved clans to join us. For the most part the divorce proceedings have thankfully been painless with no demands for joint custody or other such troublesome complications.
The clan is also generally “older” players – was that a conscious decision?
Nope, it was more of a fortunate coincidence. We formed because we liked playing together and we liked playing together because we got along well. Turns out we get along well with more mature players.
The clan is an Xbox 360 only clan? What are the main clan games?
Yes, we’re an Xbox 360 clan. Currently our main clan game is Gears of War 3; there isn’t a single night that you can log on and not find a member of CMR jamming some Gears, it’s the game that started everything for us. More recently however we have been diversifying and have now added Forza 4 and FIFA 12 to our official list of games. Unofficially we also play Sonic & SEGA ALL-Star Racing and co-op games such as Halo Reach or Castle Crashers.
Do you consider yourselves a competitive clan, or one in it more for “the shits and giggles”?
Although our roots are in competitive gaming and we’ll continue to enter tournaments (nor will we ever turn down a challenge) we have begun to focus more the fun side, trying to encourage community gaming. We are thus active supporters of the Gears Wednesday (#GearsWednesday) community evenings and run our own Forza Sunday (#ForzaSunday) sessions where everyone is invited to join us for some ‘shits & giggles’.
Winning may not a priority for us but we can’t help natural talent and a killer instinct.
Any tournaments you’ve participated in? Any you’ve gone on to win?
As a clan we entered the DGL GOW3 Cup and managed a top 5 finish while some of our members have represented CMR in the DGL’s Forza & FIFA leagues too. As we’ve mentioned before we’re more focussed on promoting competitive/community gaming so winning isn’t as much a priority as participating.
Do you play much together as a team/clan?
Lolz, there is never a night when you cannot find another clan member online to play with. And because we’re predominantly Cape Town based, we hold quarterly LAN’s where all our families get together for a weekend of fun/bonding/raging.
Are you actively recruiting players? If so, how do you decide on who is right to join you?
We’re not actively recruiting but we have been known to extend invitations to people we enjoy playing with on a regular basis. When needed we do call on a ‘show of hands’ (and some psychiatric analysis & personality profiling) but we still want to maintain a competitive standard, we don’t want to be ‘all bark and no bite’.
Any Clans you particularly respect… or even despise?
We have a high amount of respect for Hi5 for all the work they’re doing with regards to promoting competitive gaming in SA. We also have a good natured friendly rivalry going with Ground Zero & Pink Diamonds and a not as friendly rivalry going with FLS

Any plans for world domination in the future or are you planning something on a slightly smaller scale?
World domination is extremely important to us. It might not be that obvious in our previous replies but we do want to rule with an iron fist. However, that is a long term goal and we’re not there yet, we’re focusing more locally, like taking over Cape Town for the time being. We plan to start small, working on our community events/evenings and possibly look into bigger scaled LAN’s.
Boring stuff over…
If you weren’t a gaming clan you’d be…
…a house (or competing houses) from a ‘Song of Ice & Fire’.
Chainsaw or shotgun for those pesky zombies when the apocalypse hits?
Oh wow, you’ve divided us on that one. Chainsaw’s or Shotgun’s, we cannot choose. So we’ll use both… in tandem!
If you guys had a music soundtrack for going to war, what would it be?
Something like Carmina Burana O Fortuna, we have a panache for the dramatic!
Thanks for your time. Is there anything you would like to add before going on to bloody the moon?
You joke about that, but one of our members is literally a rocket scientist! Thanks for allowing us the opportunity and we’re really excited to see where SA Gaming is going

CMR – with Jody (jGLZA) at the helm – is always the main guys behind this weekend’s Gears of War 3 King of the Hill Tournament happening somewhere on your internet. Sadly registrations have closed already, but remember that next time… don’t leave it to the last minute to register! If you are one of the registered teams, you can find the schedule for the event here.
The clan have pretty much got themselves covered on the worldwide web. Their clan website can be found here, they also have a Facebook Page, a Youtube Channel and are on Twitter.
*Thanks to Creedance Clearwater Revival for unknowingly unleashing a poor rendition of ‘Bad Moon Rising’ on the Zombiegamer staff’s ears.
If you are keen to feature in this column in the future, please feel free to contact us at info@zombiegamer.co.za and we’ll think about – after you’ve sent us a sample of your braaaaaaiiiiinnnnsss.
