The Sims Designer Believes in a ‘Unified Player ID’ Future

In an interview with GIBizThe Sims designer Will Wright  spoke of his beliefs on what the future holds for the gaming world. Like many industry people before him have speculated, Wright believes cloud gaming is the future.

Wright talked of the future of gaming and how games will need to be accessible to the numerous available devices that serve as gaming machines.

Wright responded “yes” when asked if he believes that we will see more games that reach across different platforms, where you play the game on different devices but with a unified player ID.

“Yes. Each platform has a totally different set of features and advantages,” explains Wright.

“You can do a game like Tetris that’s the same on everything, but it’s not going to be nearly as interesting if you can go deeper on the platforms, because then platforms will have a much deeper experience.

“Unfortunately that adds a lot of complexity to the game design,” he added.

The legendary designer says we’ll probably see games in future launch on one platform at a time, and expand the experience to other platforms.
