This past rAge weekend saw record-breaking numbers through the door, as well as a larger focus than in previous years on eSports. It certainly wasn’t only PC-focused eSports either, with the console Call of Duty scene getting a chance to shine with the MAG Cup.

The tournament saw eight teams compete live on the show floor (to generally a full stand), as well as on a live stream, and featured celebrities, an MLG caster, talented players and an enthusiastic fan base.

Of course, with R120,000 in cash and another around R30,000 in product up for grabs, it was always going to be a weekend of exciting and intense competition, but it was the eN_Astra team (part of Energy eSports) that secured the lion’s share of the prizes. Team captain, Ismail “Jakez” Jacobs, also secured the MVP award, as well as leading his celebrity team to victory in the Red vs Blue challenge.

It looks likely – given the success of the event – eSports on console is set to stay a part of many upcoming events from now on.
