We’ve mentioned T-Fest, introduced T-Fest and now it’s time for us to detail the first event, and invite you to come along and join us on the day.
To remind you – or even inform you for the first time – of what T-Fest is about: think gaming, socialising, a market, cosplay and you’re (almost) there. It’s an event that remembers a time when Cape Town had the most social gaming meetups in the country and wants to bring that back. So, tell your friends, bring your family and leave your grumpy attitude at home.
Entry to the event and venue is free, and even some of the gaming tournaments and other activities are free too – even with prizes up for grabs. In fact, the only time you need to reach into your wallet or purse is to buy from the fantastic vendors selling their wares, or for the one paid entry tournament on the day (which gives you cash back anyway if you win) and for your food and drinks.
- Date: Saturday 30 August 2014
- Time: Event starts at 1pm and runs until around 7pm (If you’re still having a good time, feel free to stick around)
- Where: Trenchtown, 92 Station Road, Observatory, Cape Town
- What: Geek Culture Day – Trenchtown Total Gamer, Street Fighter IV, Resogun, Free-Play Games, Market, Cosplay, Card Games, Activities and More.
- Cost: Free entry to the event. R30 entry fee to the Trenchtown Total Gamer Tournament.
A variety of stall holders will be offering unique – and in many cases – hand-made items, including art, home-ware, jewelry, clothing and more that should more than appeal to you and your lifestyle.
All equipment needed for the gaming will be supplied, so just arrive and play.
Trenchtown Total Gamer
The Trenchtown Total Gamer is set to test the skills of the gamer to find out who the most accomplished gamer of a variety of genres is. We will limiting the event to 32 players to ensure we can complete the test in the time available, so we suggest pre-registering (closes 29 August at 5pm) via the contact form below to secure your spot.
Every player registered will need to play Call of Duty Ghosts, FIFA 14 and Injustice: Gods Among Us. All titles will be played as single elimination affairs, and points will be awarded for the placings in each individual title to determine the overall placings. Should the first place feature a tie, a dance off will be the decider, so be prepared to show off your footwork and rhythm to Dance Central.
Up for grabs is cash and other items for the top three finishers.
- Registration: 1pm.
- CoD Ghosts: 1:30pm.
- FIFA 14: 3:30pm.
- Injustice: 5pm.
- Cost: R30 per player.
- Prizes: First Prize: R600 cash | Second Prize: R300 cash | Third Prize: R100 cash. Products and vouchers to be confirmed.
Free Entry Tournaments
There will be two free-to-enter tournaments (as there will be at all T-Fest events, albeit different titles), and up for grabs will be products and vouchers to be confirmed, but consisting of Evopoints items, tattoo vouchers and more.
On 30 August, you can set the highest score in side-scrolling PS4 shooter Resogun or take on other virtual fighters in Street Fighter IV to see who comes out on top.
- Registration: 2pm.
- Street Fighter IV: 3pm.
- Resogun: From 1pm until 7pm. Set your high score whenever you get the chance.
- Cost: Free.
- Prizes: First Prize: R150 Evopoints item per game, along with a tattoo voucher.
There will also be a number of demo titles and ‘free-to-play’ titles on various platforms, including Guitar Hero, Dance Central, FIFA, Fighting, Racing, Shooting… heck, whatever we can fit in a box for you. Every month we plan to show off the new releases of the month too, so you can hopefully make informed decisions, so let’s see what we have on 30 August then.
In August, we want your cosplay (and will want it again in October – and if you so desire, September and November too). There will be prizes up for grabs and we are working with members of the UCON committee to ensure the cosplay is treated as an integral part of the event.
Join in from 1pm and socialise, play games or shop, but from 5:30pm the cosplay fashion show and judging will kick off and there will be prizes up for grabs, including vouchers from Krafts By Witch Knight and more which will be confirmed soon.
We will be introducing an area for card games, so bring along your decks and get things going. In August, we will be testing the waters, and should the card games prove popular enough, we will run a tournament or two in September.
For the younger ones (and some of the older ones too for that matter), Rebel Monkey will be hosting a colouring-in competition. There will be a prize or two up for grabs.
There will also be face painting and nail painting, so both kids and adventurous grown-ups can release their inner-self or simply join in the fun.
We should also have some Anime running on a screen somewhere, and an Anime Trading Station, so bring along a flashdrive.
Food and Drink
That being said, Trenchtown will offer all attendees their half-metre pizzas (one pizza can serve up to four people) for the low price of R92. That’s 50% off, so that means, families and friends can all share in one giant feast.
Please note: the premises does serve alcohol, and no under 18s will be sold alcohol. Anyone caught facilitating under age drinking will be asked to leave.
See You There
We will update and detail additional information as we draw closer, but remind you that there are also three more planned this year still, and hope to see you – both familiar faces and new faces – in attendance. If you also want to bring along your handheld consoles, feel free to, as we can offer you some space to play against each other if you like.
