Square Enix Files Lawsuit Against Individuals Who Infiltrated an Invite-Only Preview of Deus Ex: Human Revolution

ComputerandVideoGames picked up on a complaint via Patent Arcade, Square Enix has filed a lawsuit against some unknown Italian individuals who infiltrated an invite-only preview of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The limited preview was for select press who could access the title through a secret, protected internet portal. The individuals gained access, downloaded the game and distributed it online.

Square Enix claim that these individuals’ logged on to the portal with an Italian journalists’ login details without the said journalist’s knowledge nor consent.

Human Revolution is one of this year’s biggest titles from Square Enix and so it looks like the publisher is not taking the breach lightly. Square Enix is claiming direct, contributory, and vicarious copyright infringement, and cites damages in excess of $5000. The publishing giant is also seeking a permanent injunction of copying and republishing against the defendants, as well as actual and statutory damages, attorney’s fees and costs.
