Sony files patent for Kinect-style device

According to a patent filed late last year (but only published earlier this month) and spotted by Kotaku, Sony is planning what appears to be its own version of Kinect.  At least they’re planning a device which is a “USER-DRIVEN THREE-DIMENSIONAL INTERACTIVE GAMING ENVIRONMENT” which may very well be an advanced version of the EyeToy which could lay claim to being the influence for the Kinect.

The patent was filed by Richard Marks, who was  “the main man” behind Sony’s PlayStation Move peripheral.

For now, the patent means nothing more than Sony are thinking about maybe, possibly, sometime in the future making it.  Potentially, it may never see the light of day.
