This year’s rAge at the Coca-Cola Dome over the first weekend of October is looking to outdo last year’s record-breaking event.

Kicking off on the 4th of October and running for three days until conclusion on Sunday 6 October, there is likely to be more than enough to keep most entertained for all three days, never mind a single day. On the exhibition floor, you can expect both next-generation consoles to make an appearance, there’s the always popular NAG LAN and the DO Gaming Championships. But let’s break it down for you:

This year, the Xbox One will be available for the public to get their hands on. The console will however only release in South Africa in 2014, so this might be the first and only chance many will have to get their hands on the controller.

Games confirmed for the expo so far are Dead Rising 3, Forza 5 and Ryse, but Xbox South Africa are promising more announcements to come.

Apex Interactive

Apex Interactive will be bringing their Gioteck and Turtle Beach ranges to the expo, and promise a little “Battlefield on the side”. Apex Interactive have been big supporters of the Battlefield community in South Africa, and last year they pitted a number of local clans against each other at their stand in exhibition matches. Expect the same, but more. And better. Considering there are a number of new Gioteck and Turtle Beach products doing the rounds, they might be there too, but that is still to be confirmed.

Comet Computing

Or the company better know as the guys who bring in Mad Catz, Tritton and Gunnar Eyewear. At rAge this year, they promise that “exciting new products will be revealed on the Mad Catz stand”.

The NAG LAN will once again attempt to keep around 2000 gamers occupied for around 52 hours. Tickets for the LAN are R400, but there are none left, so you will have to peer at your friends through the chainlink fence which separates us from them. We have but one request to attendees. Remember deodrant. Everything else is not a neccessity.

DoGaming Championship

This year, the competitive side of rAge will be released a little from its hidden playground. In recent years, the DoGaming Championship was kept away from the general attendees of rAge like the bastard child, but this year – thanks to a 140MB dedicated line from Telkom – a fair amount of the weekend’s games and other related footage will be available in the Spectator’s Lounge at the DGC Hall, as well as online for the rest of South Africa.

The full schedule of events can be found here. Any spectators wishing to watch the players and teams battle it out for their share of R1.3 million in prizes will need to register here, but not before reading the regulations to do so here.

Dota 2

Megarom Interactive has announced “EPIC NEWS for #Dota2 Fans!!” Danylo “Dendi” Ishutin from the SteelSeries sponsored Na’Vi will be at rAge this year to meet fans and players. [Source]

rAge-Cosplay-2012Cosplay will be getting quite a run at rAge this year.

If you visit NAG magazine’s stand, you can get a photograph with three of SA’s top Cosplayers, Yamaki, KomboKitten and Jiraiya.

On top of that, Alienware will be giving away an Alienware Aurora as part of a Cosplay competition that it is hosting at the Telkom stand. Details from the Press Release: “The Alienware Cosplay competition will take place on Saturday, 5th October from 11:00 – 16:00. Gamers and cosplayers are encouraged to attend rAge in “Alienwear” or in an alien themed cosplay. A photo wall will be set up at the Telkom stand where cosplayers will have their pictures taken, which will be uploaded on the Do Gaming Facebook page.  Participants can encourage their friends and family to like their Cosplay picture, and the picture with the most likes will be the overall winner. There are fantastic prizes up for grabs, making this competition a must for all Cosplayers and Alienware fans. The first prize is an Alienware Aurora unit, kitted with a, keyboard and mouse, valued at R35 000.00. The second prize is an Alienware TactX Headset, Alienware TactX TM Mouse, Alienware Enhanced Gaming Keyboard, Battlefield 4 PC and Telkom Data Bundle; and the third prize is an Alienware TactX Headset and Battlefield 4 PC. For competition terms and conditions please visit www.alienware.co.za/rage_cosplay.html.”

rAge 2013

The PlayStation 4 will be on hand too, meaning South Africans will get a chance to experience both next-generation consoles before they launch locally.

Other games expected at the show include Watch_Dogs, The Crew, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Batman: Arkham Origins, WWE 2K14, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, NBA 2K14, F1 2013 and more. We suspect that while not mentioned, there is no reason Call of Duty Ghosts won’t be there in some form or other. In fact, we’re pretty confident that a number of major unnamed titles will be at the expo in one form or another.

There is plenty more to see and do than we’ve covered here, and you will only find out if you make the trip to The Coca-Cola Dome on the first weekend of October. And yes, you will see a zombie or two there too.

The list of exhibitors includes the usual suspects, along with all the major South African distributors.
