Another busy week in SA gaming. Plenty of highs and a few lows but always lots of braaaaaiiiiiiinnnnnssss. Humans. We mean humans. Not in a nefarious way at all.
The main tournament of the day was a FIFA 15 one which featured 32 players vying for cash prizes in a single elimination tournament on the Xbox One. Yashen Moodley beat all others in his race to first place in a final he won against Gary ‘Where da Money’. Some of the money in question was at least with them both.
Alongside the FIFA was a Killer Instinct tournament which was won by Neo Pete. Forza 5 fastest lap saw a blistering lap time set by Cole Govender around the Top Gear track, while Rohit M rocked his way to victory in the Guitar Hero high score competition. There were also some titles just thrown into the mix to entertain while waiting for the more serious business to happen.
It wasn’t all digital fun though, and for a little bit of fun there was a colouring-in competition which again proved more popular with the grown-ups than the younger ones. Luschano Petersen took first spot for making her Plants vs. Zombies image look suitable green, while outside, Dodgeball SA hosted a ‘Garden Warfare’ dodgeball event. We’re not too sure who won but we’re pretty sure that balls were thrown and dodged on the odd occasion.
To go along with all that were the vendors who offer some unique – and generally handmade – items, screenings of zombie films, the Anime trading station and a gaming and anime quiz (both hosted by the UCT Genshiken Society). That’s a pretty packed schedule with a little something for everyone, which is what T-Fest is all about.
As always, there’s a group of fabulous humans who are crucial to making the event happen, and they can all take a bow: Dylan Rosser, Blaque Knight, Astrid Lochner, Robert James Klarenbeek and Neal Strydom from Odd Customs. A massive thanks to the sponsors too, because it’s awesome to be supported by MWEB GameZone, Evopoints, Krafts by Witch Knight, Rebel Monkey and Arcane Tattoo Studio.
For pictures from the event, head here.
Up next for the Zombiegamer Events arsenal is the C4 LAN on Saturday, and the next T-Fest event on 25 October which will be a Sci-Fi and Horror theme. We have other events coming up, so keep your eye on us. Because we’re watching you.
MWEB GameZone FIFA 15 Launch
The day before we crowned our first FIFA 15 champion at T-Fest, MWEB GameZone hosted the launch party for the game with a celebrity-heavy event which saw South Africa’s first FIFA 15 tournament winners. Or as the Press Release says: “Jack Parow is SA’s first FIFA15 game champion captain”. By default that makes me the first FIFA 15 referee in South Africa. Yes I was there in a fetching yellow referee’s top. But that’s not important.
Four celeb captains (each with two of their friends and one lucky community ‘super-sub’) faced each other as one of four international teams in a venue that looked and felt fantastic – if a mock man-cave-stadium featuring stadium seating, astro-turf, Xbox Ones, 85″ Ultra HD TVs and more food and drink than you can consume is your sort of thing.
Jack Parow captained Netherlands with his two teammates Alan Meyer and Daniel Buys, while Spain was led by GoodHopeFM’s SeanO partnered with Sekoati “SK” Tsubane. Germany had Siv Ngesi with his mates Riccardo Patane and DJ Lyle, while Argentina was captained by Tapfuma Makina with teammate Katlego Maboe.
After two goal-filled semi-final matches, Germany and Holland faced each other in a tense match that had a controversial penalty awarded by the virtual referee that the real-world referee had no way to overturn. It proved to be the decisive moment in the game which Holland took advantage of on their way to a 2-1 win. For their efforts all four members of Holland (including FIFA player Roger Adamson) bagged themselves goodie bags and an Xbox One each. As did the night’s MC Carl Wastie. In case you’re wondering, the ref in yellow didn’t. Just saying.
MWEB GameZone Masters Series
The final four teams have been decided for grand final LAN event of the MWEB GameZone Masters Series. On 18 October, the teams are scheduled to battle for their share of R40,000 in cash at the LAN grand finals in Cape Town. And those four teams are:
Mountain Dew SA
Mountain Dew and Activision are joining forces for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and gamers in South Africa will have the opportunity to win an Xbox One because of this partnership. The Mountain Dew ‘Fuel Up for Battle’ promotion kicks off on 1 November 2014, and in South Africa you can “SMS a unique code on the reverse of the labels of select Mountain Dew packs (600ml, 1.5litre and 2litre) for the chance to win one of the Xbox One consoles.”

Game Edge FIFA Tournament
This past weekend was the Bloemfontein-based FIFA tournament hosted by Game Edge which had a Mini Cooper up for grabs. The final of the event saw Gauteng-based Abubakar Ebrahim face Cape Town’s Yazeed Dollie (a regular winner at Zombiegamer hosted events). Sadly, Yazeed was not to drive home in a new car – that honour went to Abubakar (also known as ‘Abu’ and ‘Mika’).
Braccianos FIFA 15 Tournment
Braccianos eSports Lounge (Brackenfell, Cape Town) has announced a FIFA 15 tournament for 18 October that offers the winner a copy of FIFA 15 and a PS4, along with WebAfrica bandwidth and asecond and third place prizes.
Entry is R100 per person and you will need to bring your A-game from the offset as it will be a single elimination tournament. Entries are limited to 32 players, so get registered by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Energy eSports are heading to ESWC at the end of the month to compete in Paris for the second year in a row. However, unlike last year, it will not be the Dota 2 representing but the CS:GO Team eN.Heat.
The players representing the team are James ‘zerOchaNce’ Wijnberg, Ruan ‘ELUSIVE’ van Wyk, Ashton ‘Golz’ Muller, Thulani ‘LighteRTZ’ Sishi and Tiaan ‘T.c’ Coertzen with the support of SteelSeries and IS GAMING.
BeZerK Gaming have been invited to play in the current ESL Battlefield 4 Season Cup. Sadly, the team was up against UK’s Team Infused and were beaten 2-0 in the round of 32. Team Infused were then knocked out by the EU’s MeetYourMakers who have proceeded to the semifinal round.

Win an Xbox One
Not with us unfortunately. However, that doesn’t mean we don’t want you to win one, so we’ll send you to Fortress of Solitude. Tell them we say “hi” and feel free to give them a nibble too.
OK, if that’s not enough, Lazygamer is also giving away an Xbox One. Go bite them on the shins and enter the competition. At least let us be friends with the winner.
