It’s never a dull moment in South African gaming anymore. There’s always something happening, and we’re only happy to be there keeping you informed.

Robert ‘Pandatank’ Botha

A great write-up by eSports Heaven about South Africa’s Robert Botha, who was one of our only true “professional” gamers until he decided to pack it in earlier this year.

‘Pandatank’ represented South Africa in StarCraft II at various international tournaments over the last few years.

MSSA North West Championship

MSSA SA Flag LogoThis past weekend saw the North West Provincial Championship play out. According to reports, the event in Klerksdorp saw a huge increase in female competitors this year, with the number totaling ” 25% of the total participation at the championships” after featuring zero last year.

Full attendance figures were not given, but it does appear that a number of events only saw one team or player enter, and only FIFA and Tekken listed top three placings in eSports.

The full results are available here.

Some pictures from the event.

MSSA Press Conference

We’re pretty sure that this is an invite only event (we were invited via email), but the MSSA will be hosting a press conference on Saturday 15 March for “all interested members of the press” so that the organisation’s new president Simphiwe Maphumulo can ” unpack his vision of the MSSA in regard to the dynamic and progressive approach that the MSSA will be following in the next three years.”

If there’s a reader out there keen to head into the lion’s den on behalf of the zombies (we’re not able to attend due to long standing arrangements), then let us know and we will RSVP to Mr. Colin Webster in the positive.

Venue: The Blue Room, Old Edwardian Society, 11 Ninth avenue, Lower Houghton, Johannesburg
Time: 12H00 to 13H00
Date: Saturday, 15 March 2014

Trenchtown FIFA 14 Mini-Tournament

Wednesday night saw a fairly decent turnout for a mid-week event at the ever gamer friendly Trenchtown in Observatory. 13 players kicked off the winner-takes-all tournament, which saw Yazeed Dollie go undefeated to take all home… again. Yazeed’s brother Asheer ended up in second, but sadly, on a winner-takes-all night, that means he left with nothing.

The full bracket is available here.

Trenchtown with the aid of the zombies hosts a three platform FIFA 14 tournament on Saturday 22 March. Big cash prizes.
