Yip. That’s the sound of the year coming to an end. Or at least the gaming industry part of it. It’s quite quiet out there except for a few hidden gems. And no. We’re not one of them. We’re filthy, decaying and not really in hiding.

Enough of our mindless rambling. On with the show. And some news you may have missed this week:

Upcoming Events

Over at our sister organisation, ACGL, there are ongoing ladders for the festive season. The ladders run until 30 December and feature: Rocket League, Call of Duty, FIFA 18 and Rainbow Six Siege. Details can be found here.

Otherwise, you can keep yourself occupied at these events this weekend:

  • Xbox Playdates ZA are hosting playdates during December. The Thursday evening events start at 8pm, while the Friday F1 events begin at 9pm. You can get more information here about the regular gaming play dates.
  • ESEA Season 26 reaches its climax on Thursday night (14 December) when Bravado Gaming takes on Big5 Esports. The CS:GO face-off will be streamed live by Mettlestate from 7:30pm.
  • Geek Gaming Night is on this Friday (15 December) from 6pm at Geek Patrol in Umhlanga. On the agenda is Call of Duty, FIFA, socialising and more. Entry is either R50 or R100 depending on what you want to do on the night. Details are available on the event page.
  • Timeline E-Sport Center are hosting a CS:GO LAN ‘party’ on Saturday (16 December) from 8am. The venue is situated in Benoni and interested attendees must book beforehand. Entry is R100 and additional information is available here.
  • Saturday at the Nexus in Ferndale, Gauteng is a jampacked one. They have three events happening at the venue:
    • JHBD: Dante Must Die Mode [Fighting Games Tournament]: 10am to 10pm. Details here.
    • Nintendo Play Day December 2017: 10am to 2pm. Details here.
    • Xbox Playdates ZA – PUBG: 3pm to 7pm. Details here.
  • Metro Home City in Pretoria are hosting a FIFA 18 tournament on Saturday and Sunday with a PS4 up for grabs. There is additional information on the event page.

MGMS Rocket League

This past weekend saw the finals of the first qualifier in the MWEB GameZone Rocket League championship. The top two teams from the qualifier will face off against the top two teams from the upcoming second qualifier.
