Another busy week has passed in South African eSports and gaming. A few events were outside of our borders, but featured South Africans, while a number happened withing our sunny shores. There’s also a number of upcoming events to keep your gaming hunger sated, and they can all be found below.

South Africa had a team and two individuals at the Electronic Sports World Cup in France over this past weekend. Energy eSports represented SA in Dota 2, while Zaid Patel and Irshaad Mohomed were the players there for FIFA 14.

Sadly, the tournament proved to be a tough one for all the SA players, with none making it past the group phases of their respective events.

In Dota 2, Energy eSports managed two wins in their five games – against Muhan and Insight eSports – and finished fourth in their group. Russia’s Team Empire were the team to take the Dota 2 final (and $12,500) 2-0 against the USA’s Evil Geniuses.

In FIFA 14, the two South Africans came against some the best players in the world, and Zaid Patel managed a win and two draws in his group to end in sixth place. Irshaad Mohomed also grabbed sixth spot in his group with a record of three wins and four losses. French player Vinch scored four to his Russian opponent’s one in the final to grab $4,000 for his efforts.

Our congratulations to our fellow South Africans on representing the community with pride.

IeSF 2013 Team SAIeSF

Just a few countries further east, the MSSA contingent was at the IeSF World Championships in Bucharest, Romania.

The ladies representing the Protea eSports team managed to both make it to the quarter-finals of their respective titles – Lyrene Kuhn for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Yolandi Williams for StarCraft 2.

The League of Legends team found the going tough, and ended their tournament in the group phase without a win.
