SA_Blops 2_FIFANot necessarily the busiest week to ever pass in South African gaming, but we may have missed something. Hey. We’re zombies not machines.

Dota 2 | South Africa vs. Mexico

The Dota 2 Protea Team are now on a one win and one loss record in international matches following their victory over Mexico. The best of three Test Match was hosted at MWEB’s Mcave this past Sunday in front of (or at least as “in front of” as is possible on the internet) around 2 000 viewers. The team bounced back from their loss against Romania over a month ago to comprehensively beat the Mexican team 38-1 and 45-8. The Mexican team up until that point had a very good competitive record of 24 wins and six losses.

Photos of the team in action can be found on the MSSA Facebook Album.

You can also view some of the matches on Mweb Gamezone’s Twitch channel.

Kalahari Super 8 Showdown

The chaps at MWEB had a busy day on Sunday. Prior to the Dota 2 Test Match, there was the not-so-small matter of the last eight on the Xbox 360 and PS3 playing for bragging rights and the prizes in the Kalahari Super 8 Showdown.

The Xbox 360 tournament (like the PS3 one) started with the round of 32 a week earlier which saw a number of big names in SA gaming knocked prior to the weekend’s Super 8. High 5 Revo faced Team Entity and High 5 didn’t get it all their own way. They battled to a 3-2 win to secure a semi-final against iNViDiA Gaming who had handed F34R Elite a 3-0 loss.

The remaining two games in the quarter-finals saw both Team Adept and ViNCO Gaming dispose of their opponents (AgonY and Speed Gaming) relatively comfortably with a 3-0 win.

The semi-finals proved to be tighter affairs. The oldest Xbox 360 clan in SA – High 5 – proved that experience can win out by beating newcomers iNViDiA 3-1. The match between Adept and ViNCO proved to be even tighter and it took all five rounds to come up with a winner. Adept claiming a victory over VinCO 3-2 to set up a familiar final – the two teams coming up against each other at the Trenchtown LAN in July. While the score differed from that encounter, the result was still the same with Adept taking the win 3-0 to secure the 3013th tournament win in a row. Alright, the very last part of that is an exaggeration.

The PS3 tournament started… and then promptly stopped after the semi-finals on Sunday. Adept had secured a semi-final spot on Sony’s platform too with a game against L3G1ON_ICU setup. RaW Gaming and R34L Gaming are the other two teams to make it to the semi-finals.

Adept showed they are the team to beat on pretty much any console at the moment by storming into the finals to face RaW Gaming, which was re-scheduled to be played on Tuesday night. Date change, nor platform change seemed to matter as Team Adept stamped their authority on the South African Call of Duty scene by claiming the double and clinching the PS3 Super 8 Showdown to go along with their Xbox 360 victory.

Team Adept have now won six Black Ops 2 tournaments on the trot over both LANs and online competitions.
