Upcoming Events

As things edge even closer to the end of the year, the last weekend of November throws up a few extras for gamers.

  • Make Games SA kicks things off from tonight already with a Cape Town community night at the Bandwidth Barn on Albert Street in Woodstock. It starts at 6pm, and if you’re interested in the event, you should head to their event page.
  • Cause Gaming LAN hits UCT from Friday night until Sunday for their charity LAN event. We will also be there hosting a Black Ops 3 and FIFA 16 tournament. The PC LAN starts at 9:30pm on Friday and runs until 1:30pm on Sunday. Tickets for Gigabit seats are R150, while our tournament fees are R80. Details of the LAN can be found here.
  • Cold Fusion LAN is hosting their Xmas Edition LAN event at Laerskool Edleen in Kempton Park. The event starts at 6pm on Friday and runs until 9am on Sunday. Entry is R75 per person and details can be found here.
  • AIX LAN forms part of the AIX Geek Mini Expo and runs from 9am until 9pm on Saturday. The LAN is at Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre in Kibler Park and tickets cost R130 (which includes entrance to the expo). You can get your tickets here.
  • George LAN: Apparently this is the ‘fifth (and final) LAN for 2015’ and is hosted at the George Civic Centre from 10am on Saturday. If you’re in the area and keen to join the LAN, details can be found here.
  • GameLocal is scheduled to host one of their R10,000 FIFA 16 tournaments in Potchefstroom on Saturday, however, there is very little chatter about it on their Facebook Page, although an event page still exists for it.

ZG_SW_01Gigabyte Star Wars Launch

This past Friday saw Star Wars Battlefront (and Star Wars in general) celebrated at the MWEB Mcave. The event was sponsored by Gigabyte, and supported by Loot.co.za, and saw a number of expectant attendees enjoy and win at the event.

With over R20,000 in prizes up for grabs, including a BenQ gaming monitor and a Gigabyte graphics card, many got to leave a lot happier than when they arrived, but the event itself saw plenty of smiles as attendees got to try out the new game, show their dancing skills with Kinect Star Wars and target shooting with a Nerf Gun. Cosplayers were on hand to add to the atmosphere… as was The Imperial March.

You can read more about the event on the MWEB GameZone site. Our photos from the event can be found here.

What can Capetonians expect? Michael James, rAge Senior Project Manager, says, “Our aim is to deliver a rAge experience to Cape Town on a smaller scale at first, but eventually nurturing it into something enchanting in its own right. We don’t know what it’s going to look like and we don’t know who’s going to be there, but we do want it to be so impressive that even the Johannesburg crowd, who’ve grown so accustomed to rAge rolling around every year, will also want to attend.”

rAge Johannesburg attracted 35 000 people over three days this year and, as with all rAge events, rAge Cape Town will bring together developers, manufacturers, avid gamers and fans, with attendees getting first access to the latest games, comic books, digital lifestyle gear, collectible card games, trends and more. Visitors can also join the wildly popular NAG LAN in Cape Town, where over 500 gamers will spend an exhilarating 52 hours enjoying a truly epic gaming experience.

For 2016, rAge ticket prices for both Cape Town and Johannesburg will remain the same as 2015. What self-respecting Capetonian geek wouldn’t love to find a rAge expo weekend ticket or NAG LAN ticket in their Christmas stocking!

The LAN is scheduled for for 5 to 7 February 2016 at the Sunningdale Sports Complex in Cape Town with a seat costing R200, and entry for spectators costing R50.
