Happy new gaming year to you all. Sadly, it usually means that it’s a quiet month kicking things off, but we’re pretty sure it will only get busier in the coming months.

So this is what’s happening in January 2015.

Weekend One (2 to 4 January)

Sadly – and not completely unexpectedly – the weekend has nothing to show for itself.

Weekend Two (9 to 11 January)

Things kick off with the 27th GAC LAN of 2015 at the Abe Sher Stadium in Bothasig. For R140 (and your PC) you can join the fun from Friday (9 January) at 5pm until 8am on Sunday. Details are available via the event page.

CoD AW_Kamimodo_01On Saturday (10 January), we’re at Kamimodo eSports Cafe hosting our first event of 2015. Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is the game and 12 teams are expected to battle it out in preparations for the Call of Duty Championships. Spectators are welcome and entry is free if you’re there to watch.

If cosplay rather than CoD is your thing, there’s a Lolita Picnic at Kirstenbosch Gardens from 12pm on Saturday. Details are up on the event page.

Also happening on Saturday from 2pm is a FIFA 15 tournament at Games On in Rondebosch. R60 is the entry fee and the tournament will be run on Xbox One. The event page is your stop for more info.

Gauteng rounds things off on Sunday with the Meru Cosplay Picnic at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens. The picnic starts at 11am and runs until 4pm. You can get more info here.

Weekend Three (16 to 18 January)

Another quiet weekend. It’s (un)dead in fact.

Weekend Four (23 to 25 Janaury)

There’s a LAN happening at UCT on Saturday (24 January) to Sunday. The Gigabit LAN starts at 11am on the Saturday and runs until 5pm the next day. Tickets for the PC LAN start at R140, but there is a console lounge costing R40 to enter. All the details you may need are available via the event page.

Weekend Four (30 January to 1 February)

Aaaannnndddd…. nothing. Sigh.

Repeat events throughout January…

There are a few events which just keep on keeping on – sometimes weekly, sometimes daily. These are them.

Cape Town is also lucky enough to have a number of eSports Lounges operating now. There’s always something happening at one of them, so keep up to date by visiting their Facebook Pages: Kamimodo eSports CafeGames OnBracciano’sPS3 & PS4 Gaming Lounge and The 360 Lounge.

In Johannesburg, Good Game Cafe and The H.I.V.E. are your spots to enjoy some face to face gaming time.

Please note, if we have missed an upcoming event, it might be because we didn’t know about it. As much as we pretend to be know-it-alls, we’re not actually, and need your help in keeping up to date with all the happenings around this place we all call home. You can also keep up with everything happening by visiting our new Calendar. We will update both the calendar and this article if new events are announced for the month.
