SA eSports | Eastwoods FIFA 13 Champs

This past weekend was certainly as good a reason as any to sing “we’re football crazy, we’re football mad” at the top of your voice.  Well, virtual football mad anyway.  Two (at least two that we were aware of) FIFA events were happening around Cape Town over this past weekend and they were packed with plenty of Real Madrid and Barcelona.  And passion.

Friday and Sunday saw FIFA tournaments at GecoSports (more in an article later today), while Saturday was the Eastwoods FIFA Champs, which brought together the best 16 players from the last three months of Tuesday night qualifiers in an all day football extravaganza.

Kicking off at around lunch time (or at least after the contestants had eaten a little lunch), the tournament started with two groups of eight players in a bit of round robin action.  The top four from each group then proceeded to the knock out phase, where the action really heated up.

The eight players who battled and won enough games to the quarter final knockouts were:

QF 1: Talieb  vs Battousai
QF 2: Bruce Lee vs
QF 3: Roebou vs Mobi
QF 4: Fraansman vs Franchizeboy

Battousai and Bruce Lee went on to face each other in the first semi final, which Bruce Lee went on to win.  The second semi final was contested between Mobi and Franchizeboy, a game that Mobi took to set up the final match between himself and Mr. Lee.

Battling for prizes which included a brand new 250GB Xbox 360 for the winner, the competition was always going to be fierce, and in the end it was most likely a flying kick by the Kung Fu legend that ensured he also became the FIFA 13 champion of Eastwoods.   Mobi ended up bagging the silver medal, while Franchizeboy beat Battousai to claim third place in the tournament.

Along with the Xbox 360 up for grabs – and sponsored by venue hosts Eastwoods –  was some FIFA13 goodies sponsored by Mweb, medals, flash drives and other stuff that should make you sad and jealous for not getting involved more often.

The FIFA 13 Eastwood Champs was hosted by Console Kingz, GamerNet and Eastwoods, and if the conversations are anything to go by, this is just the start.
