SA eSports Desk | February Update and Results

This past weekend (and week for that matter) was pretty jam packed with activity on both the console and PC eSport fronts.

Halo 4 Keyart 01

The Xbox South Africa sponsored and organised Halo 4 Tournament drew to a close on Saturday.  With tickets to Gamescom 2013 up for grabs, it was down to the remaining eight lone wolves and four teams to do battle at Microsoft’s HQ in Johannesburg.  The four teams first had the little task of playing their semi-finals to decide the final two teams, and Sick and Sinful faced up against Cosca Contingent, with the Sick ones taking the match.  Next up was Hi5-AnTiGraVitY and Black Plasma, with Black Plasma joining Sick and Sinful in the finals.  The finals saw Sick and Sinful take the win and the tickets to Gamescom 2013.

In the individuals competition, the eight finalists represented the best South Africa had to offer when it comes to playing Halo 4 – and if you think otherwise, you should’ve taking part then…  In the end, a member of the winning team Sick and Sinful took the individual finals, meaning he is going to have two seats on an airplane and double the accommodation.  Unless we hear otherwise from the officials still.

How the top eight finished:

JSHARP72 – 1132 points and 98 kills
Shadow Vaaitjie – 830 points and 72 kills
Dewwwwwwwwwwwwy – 826 points and 71 kills
Big Boss 2480
PottyZA

Our congratulations to Sick and Sinful and JSHARP72 for taking the win in their respective finals, we hope you enjoy Gamescom… we’re not jealous at all.  A personal shout out to PottyZA – a sometime Guest Writer here at Zombiegamer, and member of OAP – who proved we’re not completely a “shit and giggles” clan.  Or at least one of us isn’t…

Battlefield 3 PS3 Team SAThe Battlefield 3 South African teams on both PS3 and PC had matches this weekend.  The PS3 team playing in the World Nation’s Tournament had a stunning victory over the reigning champs France last week, but sadly found The Netherlands in fine form (and with low pings) and went down 3-0 to the Dutch.  It’s not all over for Team SA on the PS3 however.  Next Sunday (17 February) at 6pm (GMT), they face the Swiss team.  The match is a real crunch match for Team SA, and essentially, only a win will see the team proceed to the knockout phase of the tournament.  We wish the team all the best, and will let you know if the game will be streamed live.

Sadly for South Africa’s Battlefield 3 teams, the PC team lost their Nation’s Cup game against Russia on Sunday night.  Details of the match can be found here.  There are still plenty of games to be played in the tournament, and if you want to keep up to date with the team standings, you can do so right here.

Black Ops 2 Mweb LaddersThe matches are coming thick and fast in the Mweb Black Ops 2 Ladders Tournament.  The PS3 teams have certainly being packing in the games, and at the time of writing, F34R Elite were sitting at the top of the PS3 ladder with 15 wins and two losses, while the second placed team – 13K – find themselves on a 11 match winning streak with no losses as yet.  While the teams on the Xbox 360 ladder have put in less matches than their PS3 compatriots, the top of the log is a tighter affair overall.  Sector 17 LaTvia are leading standings (at the time of writing) with six wins and no losses.  They are separated by one win from second placed Splash Zone, who are then one win ahead of XtaZ.  With still a good few weeks to go in the competition, expect things to really heat up.

Dota 2MyGaming and Polarfluke kicked off their inaugural Dota 2 tournament.  Dubbed the ‘MyGaming Dota 2 Sunday Evening Cup Series (SECS)‘, the tournament has a prize packet of R1,500 in cash for the winning team from MyGaming, and R500 for the runner-up team.  At the time of writing we are not aware of the results, but will update when we get the information.

**UPDATE**

The standings after week one of the tournament as follows (and via MyGaming):
