Review Scores Claim Another Victim – No Alpha Protocol Sequel

If you thought review scores serve no purpose and nobody listens to them, think again. SEGA confirmed what most people suspected already, that the Obsidian developed Alpha Protocol will not see a sequel.

Alpha Protocol was not well received at all with reviews and ended in the low 70’s score on Metacritic. This clearly affected sales negatively as SEGA West president, Mike Hayes confirmed to CVG that the game did not reached targets set by the publisher and therefore will be canned.

He said that it was a brilliant concept but “with Metacritic where you have to be in the high 70s to mid-80s minimum [to have any success]. Well, with RPGs you have got to be in the late 80s. Whilst we had a good game, I don’t think we had a game that had enough to get us to that upper echelon and I think that was the issue.”

The sad thing is,  as a cheap game most of us would probably overlook the title’s problems and enjoy its charms. It was never in doubt that it came from a talented place, so I am sure it will have some appealing aspects to it.
