Profiled: Zaffageek

A full-time Twitch streamer from Bloemfontein? Suuuurrrrreeeee…. and we’re really zombies (masquerading as humans).

Oh. It’s true? Well then we are truly intrigued. Tell us more Zaffageek, we’re all ears. Well, decaying ears at least, but ears none-the-less.

Go ahead.  Introduce yourself.  Don’t be shy.

Well, I am Zaffageek, a professional, full-time twitch streamer on currently living in Bloemfontein of all places, I stream 6 days a week, 8 hours a day if the internet holds and I am a variety streamer with a strong focus on series playthroughs. Basically you name it, and I play it. Yes, your eyes did not deceive you, I have been doing twitch full-time as my only source of income since November 2016. I also founded the twitchZA community in an attempt to bring streamers all across South Africa together in one spot.

What’s your platform of choice?  Why?

PC, it’s always been PC and I find it easier to stream and game at the same time. That being said, I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on a console or two, just to take a break every now and then from the PC, but in all likelihood, the consoles will either be gathering dust, or just turn into very expensive paperweights.

Can you remember the first time you ‘gamed’?

Don’t necessarily remember the first time I gamed, but the one game that got me into PC games was Monkey Island 2, back in the day. As far as multiplayer is concerned, I would say Quake 1 and Duke Nukem 3D, though I did love Quake 1 more.

How long have you been gaming?

I would say about 25 odd years, I would say I have started getting more serious about gaming during May of 2015, because, as you might have guessed, that was when I first started streaming part time.

When do you think you’ll stop gaming?

Most likely never, because with the advancements in technology, I would probably be able to control the game with my mind, or I will be sitting in a holodeck somewhere… One can dream.

Are you a serious gamer?  Or do you enjoy a laugh?

I am all about enjoying games, I suck at games, might as well have fun while failing.

Singleplayer or multiplayer?

I have a strong focus on singleplayer games and this is due to the fact that you are the story. The current game I am playing, I was trying to avenge my family by turning Sauron’s army against him, or at least attempting to. Before that, I was stuck on a space station with aliens that can turn into any object.

Is playing online important to you?

It’s important, it gives me time to hang out with my viewers while preparing our base for that damn zombie horde that pops up every 7 days.

Are you a member of a clan?  Who are they and why?

Not a clan per say. I am the founder of the twitchZA community on twitch, and I started the discord server. We are a collection of 20 odd South African streamers, and we mainly share our 2c on streaming, give advice and generally support each other in our streaming endeavours.

Favourite game currently?

Glad you asked currently. As a streamer, it is whatever I am streaming currently that takes the favourite spot. In the last month of streaming I would give that honour to Prey. In general I am a Quake fanboy, though.

Do you have any hobbies outside of gaming?  What?

Well, my hobby became my job, thus one could say that I don’t really feel like I’m working most of the time. Non-twitch related, is really difficult to say. Catching up on TV series that I miss due to streaming, drinking a punt load of coffee and sometimes sleeping. I also have a dog, Jambalaya who I regularly hold farting competitions with.

You’re stranded on a desert island and a genie grants you five items.  Name them:

A game: Quake Champions
A CD: Any Fokofpolisiekar album, genie’s choice
A movie or TV series: Simpsons
An organic life form: A dog, pretty easy, man’s best friend
Something edible or drinkable: Pizza for days!

What’s the most embarrassing or worst game you’ve ever bought or received as a gift?

Bad Rats – ‘nuff said.

If you were a game designer, describe your ultimate game design.

My ultimate game design is probably already being made. Legends of Aria, or as the Ultima Online community calls it, UO2.0. Essentially an open world MMO, where you can design your own house/vendor stalls and if you group up with other players, you can eventually have your own town, like in the (g)olden days of UO, the economy was also entirely player-run.

The zombie apocalypse has happened.  You’re facing down a ravenous zombie horde (which may or may not include members of ZG in bikinis).  What weapon do you grab?

Most likely a Compound Bow, gotta be silent when taking out them Zombies.

In the aforementioned zombie apocalypse you humans are all toast.  Become a turncoat and assist the superior zombies or stay with the soon to be wiped out human resistance?

Depends on what universe of zombies we are talking about. Shaun of the Dead ‘verse then I’ll stick with the human race, because zombies=cheap labour. If the zombies gain intelligence [Woah. “Gain intelligence”? Look who you’re speaking to. Except that Dredd character. He’s just stupid. – Undead Ed] like the vampires in the novel of “I am Legend” then I will become a turncoat.

Thanks for taking the time to answer our silly questions.  What game are you off to play now that you’re done?

I am finishing of the DLC’s of Shadow of Mordor, then it will probably be 7 Days to Die, until I return from rAge, then it’s all scary games for Halloween.
