Profiled: Mayhem

Gamers. You’re such tasty specimens of humanity. That’s why we like this feature. And because we can decide who to target first when the chaos of the zombie apocalypse hits.

Today, it really is all chaos and mayhem. Well, Mayhem mainly. And in this case, Mayhem is not the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse but the name of a South African Call of Duty player and future lawyer.

Go ahead.  Introduce yourself.  Don’t be shy.

I’m Ilyaas “Mayhem” Mohamed. I’m 23 years old and hail from the most beautiful city in South Africa, Cape Town. Currently a third year law student and relatively new competitive Call of Duty player trying to make a name for myself in the #CoDZA community.

What’s your platform of choice?  Why?

Previously it was PC, now it’s PS4. I sold by PC and got me a PS4 in April of this year in order to play CoD competitively as the PC community was basically dead in that regard. Also for all the amazing exclusives!

Can you remember the first time you ‘gamed’?

It was way back in the PS1 era. My very first game was Future Cop: LAPD. Absolutely loved that game! Was also crazy about the Syphon Filter series on the PS1.

How long have you been gaming?

Been gaming ever since I can remember. Some of my favourite games are Circus Charlie and Adventure Island. One of my first FPS was a game called CIA Operative: Solo Missions way back when I had a Pentium 3.

When do you think you’ll stop gaming?

I definitely would never stop gaming. Gaming has become a life style and an escape. Not many people understand it and they often disregard it, but I’m extremely passionate about gaming. Always have been and always will be.

Are you a serious gamer?  Or do you enjoy a laugh?

I’d say I’m a bit of both. I’m serious when I need to be, but I’d say I’m definitely the funny one and designated roaster in my clan.

Singleplayer or multiplayer?

I love both, but I lean slightly towards single player. I absolutely love getting lost in a good story. I see games as interactive movies. You get to live out the story and decide how it unfolds.

Is playing online important to you?

It definitely is. It’s how I connect with the CodZA community and it’s been a great experience thus far. Although it would be way better if we lived in a world where everyone had fibre ?

Are you a member of a clan?  Who are they and why?

I’m currently a member of a clan called Kryptic Nation. It’s a Call of Duty clan founded by Khelder Illingsworth. I got my PS4 mainly to play competitively and I found a great clan with great team members. Pretty psyched to be a part of the team.

Favourite game currently?

Favourite game currently is probably Black Ops 3. I still thoroughly enjoy the game and still grinding to get all the guns!

Do you have any hobbies outside of gaming?  What?

I’m a very sporty person. I love soccer, gym and doing anything adventurous. Also a big series/movie fanatic. The cinema is practically my second home.

You’re stranded on a desert island and a genie grants you five items.  Name them:

A game: FIFA
A CD: Linkin Park – Meteora
A movie or TV series: All seasons of F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
An organic life form: Wouldn’t mind an African Grey parrot
Something edible or drinkable: Nandos!

What’s the most embarrassing or worst game you’ve ever bought or received as a gift?

Worst has to be Bioshock 2. Not because it’s a bad game though. Love the Bioshock series! I got it on PC and it had DRM, which means I needed internet to activate it. And guess wo didn’t have any internet at the time. Fun times.

If you were a game designer, describe your ultimate game design.

Just a really gritty, realistic first person shooter. The animations have to be realistic, the way the bullet hits bodies have to be realistic, the gun sounds have to be top notch, realistic gore in the game. I feel we have yet to experience a FPS like that.

The zombie apocalypse has happened.  You’re facing down a ravenous zombie horde (which may or may not include members of ZG in bikinis).  What weapon do you grab?

A silenced SCAR-L with 4x ACOG sight! One of my favourite weapons and would love to go to town with it!

In the aforementioned zombie apocalypse you humans are all toast.  Become a turncoat and assist the superior zombies or stay with the soon to be wiped out human resistance?

I’d be cliché and make a last stand with the human resistance. Going to become a zombie anyway, might as well go down swinging!

Thanks for taking the time to answer our silly questions.  What game are you off to play now that you’re done?

It was a pleasure! I’m about to hop online to go do some scrims on Infinite Warfare.
