Season One Grand Final to be hosted at Protea Hotel Fire & Ice!

South Africa, 6 June 2019 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TeamFinity and ACGL is proud to announce Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott as the venue partner for the first season of Mortal Kombat 11.

In many ways, the match couldn’t be more perfect. Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott is a forward-thinking hotel brand with a name that conjures up two of the iconic Mortal Kombat characters in Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

“We are immensely excited about this partnership, not only because of my personal love of gaming, but because this signals the next step in the evolution of Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott Menlyn. We are already known for our comedy and DJ nights, and I’m thrilled that we’re adding e-sports to the mix. The new 1Gbps fibre line that we’ve just installed has also enabled us to host this prestigious event,” said De Villiers Heymans, the General Manager of Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott Menlyn.

All roads will lead to Pretoria on 27 July 2019, as the top four players from the online qualifiers meet the top four from the venue’s last chance qualifiers to play for their share of merchandise, R30 000 cash and a trip to compete at the Celtic Throwdown event in Dublin, Ireland.

The online qualifiers have also seen a series of date changes to facilitate demand. Already underway is the daily match-finder ladders. Players completing at least five matches a week will stand in line to win merchandise in a random draw.

The qualifying cups will now be hosted on 15, 22 and 29 June. The top sixteen players from the leaderboard after the three qualifiers will be invited to compete in the Pro Cup on Saturday 6 July.

There is also the addition of two ‘Character Cups’ to acknowledge the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott partnership with a Scorpion only tournament on 13 June and a Sub-Zero tournament on 27 June. The winning competitor per Character Cup will win a Mortal Kombat 11 x Fokof Lager hamper.

The tournaments are open to all residents in Sub-Saharan Africa. It should be noted that some terms and conditions will apply, and players will need to be 18 years or older on the 1 June 2019. Additionally, you will need to ensure that your passport is valid for the trip to Ireland. The tournament will be run on PlayStation®4 using the NetherRealm Studio’s developed fighting game, Mortal Kombat 11.
