PlayStation Vita only arriving in US and Europe in 2012

If you are in Japan, congratulations, it appears you are the only country that will be getting the Vita this year.  Other territories will need to wait until early next year to get their hands on Sony’s new portable gaming console.

Also, do not expect a lowered price to accompany the delay and the price will start at $249 and end at $299 for the 3G version.

Speaking to the press in Tokyo, SCEI Chairman Kaz Hirai announced that the PlayStation Vita would miss the holidays in America and Europe, instead rolling out in those regions during early 2012. Hirai insisted that the delayed launch would not be accompanied by a lowered price, despite Nintendo’s hasty and reactionary price drop on the Nintendo 3DS.

“We packed so much into the device and made it very affordable,” Hirai said. “There is no need to lower the price just because somebody else that happens to be in the video game business decided that they were going to lower their price.”
