Notorious “Hacktivists” Plead Guilty to Hacking Sony

You will remember the notorious “hacktivist” group, LulzSec who hacked Sony and other companies with DDoS (distributed denial of service) not so long ago.

Two British teenagers belonging to the group have now admitted they participated in the cyber attacks and have pleaded guilty.

Ryan Cleary, 20, and Jake Davis, 19, admitted to a UK court that they were part of the attacks on Sony, Nintendo, 20th Century Fox, NHS and others.

GamesIndustryBiz report that Cleary has already been jailed in the UK and was indicted by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles, but his attorney has said she would “fiercely contest” any moves to extradite her client to America.

“Cleary is a skilled hacker,” FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller told Reuters in mid-June.

“He controlled his own botnet, employed sophisticated methods and his broad geographic scope affected a large number of businesses and individuals.”

A judge in the UK has set a trial date for next April.
