Well, Borderlands 2 has only just hit the shelves, so while talk might turn to “wouldn’t it be great in Borderlands 3 if…”, Gearbox is not focusing on a sequel yet.  They are currently expending their energy on DLC for Borderlands 2 and the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines game.

Posting on Twitter, Randy Pitchford said: “Chill out internet. No one has started working on a sequel to Borderlands 2. It’s fun to talk and think, but actual effort is focused on Borderlands 2 DLC, Aliens, etc.”

“Clean and Simple truth: The only Borderlands related game development work going on right now is for Borderlands 2.”

The comments were made in response to those of Anthony Burch – Borderlands franchise lead writer – who recently suggested that Gearbox has already started thinking about a third entry in the series.

“Anthony was speaking to his thoughts. We’re all thinking about it and it’s exciting to think. But there’s no project – no actual effort.”
