Retail experts have told MCV that with the launch of the next-gen condoles around the corner, current-gen games are selling significantly less in numbers, even AAA titles.
The source article explains that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has sold a whopping 60 per cent fewer units than Assassin’s Creed III. Even the mega Battlefield 4 has been significantly effected, selling 69 per less that Battlefield 3 at launch.
“There’s been a natural decline in current-gen software sales throughout the year which would have continued regardless of new consoles but there’s no denying that PS4 and Xbox One is having an even bigger impact,” said Robert Lindsay of games chain Games Centre.
“But our next-gen software pre-orders are strong, adding them to current-generations sales would make up most of the deficit.”
I know this is not the most surprising of news, but what does surprise me is the percentage of the drop in sales. We also believe the PC is contributing to less current-gen console games being sold.
