We won’t be getting the next Gears of War game any time soon, as Microsoft says the game is still in the early concept and prototyping stage.
Studio manager Rod Fergusson said on the ‘Black Tusk Rodcast’ [as cited by IGN] that the studio are “only 100 days in.”
Fergusson confirmed that the studio will again base the new game on the canon of the Gears of War books and graphic novels.
“As best we can,” he replied when asked about it.
“I believe fun is greater than canon. That’s not to say I’m going out of my way to destroy canon, but if I get to a situation that may invalidate a comic book or a book, I’m going to make that fun decision.”
Gears of War fans will know, Rod Fergusson is a Gears of War veteran dev. He left Epic Games to work on BioShock Infinite, then formed Black Tusk to work on the next Gears of War when Microsoft acquired the IP from Epic Games.
So while it sounds like the game will still be a long while away, at least we know it’s in good hands.
