Robotics, gaming and more to feature at My Future 4.o Summit

The My Future 4.0 Summit, South Africa’s first next level digital skills and careers summit, has just been announced. The summit will take place at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg between 15 and 18 May and will showcase the digital skills needed to thrive in the careers of the future.

From tools and technologies to support digital education as well as future employers of choice, the My Future 4.0 Summit will engage and excite with exhibitors across the business sector.

The summit will showcase career options and the future of coding, gaming, virtual reality, 3D printing, nanotech, artificial intelligence, robotics and digital design as well as those in medicine, mining, the arts, music and much more.  There will also be daily presentations and talks from industry leaders to influencers, tech junkies and trend analysts. The 4-day event aims to prepare students, parents, post- graduate students and even those already employed in a highly interactive environment.

The Topic: “The Future of Jobs – Employment, Skills and Workforce Strategy for the Fourth Industrial Revolution was brought to the fore and discussed at large during the World Economic Forum 2015. The executive summary, published in January 2016, highlights how the imminent and fast approaching disruptive changes to business models will have a profound impact on the employment landscape in the coming years.

By one popular estimate, 65% of our children entering primary school today will ultimately work in completely new job types that don’t yet exist. In such a rapidly evolving employment landscape, the ability to anticipate and prepare for future skills requirements, job content, and the aggregate effect on employment, is urgently and increasingly critical in order to fully seize the opportunities presented by these trends. On average, by 2020, more than a third of the required core skills sets for these occupations will be comprised of skills that are not yet crucial to jobs today. The 4th Industrial Revolution is not just a buzz word. It is changing the face of almost every sector, but many students and graduates are unprepared for what it will bring and how it will affect their career choices.

My Future 4.0 will simulate the landscape in which the children of today will find themselves tomorrow. Thought-leading technology companies, digital skills development and learning institutions, government, and information technology experts will come together, and not only showcase the jobs of the future, but also open and augment the minds of our youth; helping them, together with their parents and teachers, make educated and informed decisions on subject choices, higher education opportunities and ultimately become highly sought-after employees.

Visitors will also get a unique opportunity to spend time with expo brand ambassador, Pepper, South Africa’s first humanoid robot, who will be available for a chat or a selfie!

Hanli Goncalves, MD of FOMOComm Holdings and organiser of the expo is excited to bring the careers of the future to Johannesburg in a world-first and is already preparing to take the Summit to Cape Town and Durban in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
