MSSA to send a Women’s Team to IeSF

The MSSA (Mind Sports South Africa) has announced that it will be sending a team to compete in TEKKEN and StarCraft II at the IeSF 2012 World Championships in South Korea.

According to MSSA, “all women who enter MSSA events in TEKKEN and StarCraft II and who finish as the top three women will earn a place at the National Team Trials to be held in August at which both the women’s and men’s teams will be selected to go to South Korea in October later this year.”

So far Lyrene Kuhn (Free State Championships) and Marushka Bosch (Gauteng Championships) have both qualified for the National Trials in TEKKEN.

With those two regional championships completed, the upcoming Mpumalanga Championships, Western Cape Championships, KwaZulu Natal Championships and online championships should still reveal plenty of potential qualifiers.

The IeSF has just announced that it will be holding a women’s event for TEKKEN and StarCraft II at the 2012 World Championships.

This year the 2012 IeSF World Championships will be held in Cheon-an City, South Korea from the 4th to 8th of October 2012.

The MSSA was one of the protagonists in having women equally represented at the world’s most prestigious eSports events. The IeSF is attempting to put more weight on the promotion for female participation in keeping with the Sport Accord and IOC movement.

Thus, all women who enter MSSA events in TEKKEN and StarCraft II and who finish as the top three women will earn a place at the National Team Trials to be held in August at which both the women’s and men’s teams will be selected to go to South Korea in October later this year.

Already there are two women who have qualified for the Trials. However, the two who have both qualified for trials have both qualified for the game of TEKKEN.

With the Mpumalanga Championships, Western Cape Championships, KwaZulu Natal Championships and online championships still to be played, it will be more than interesting to see the list of qualifiers grow.

The two gamers who have already qualified are:

Lyrene Kuhn                 KMSC    (Free State Championships)
Marushka Bosch           KMSC    (Gauteng Championships)
