Motion control is a ‘gimmick’ that won’t be implemented in Battlefield 4 confirms DICE head

DICE executive producer Patrick Bach has said stated that Battlefield 4 will not include motion control as he believes it is a ‘gimmick’ and because he believes it won’t add to the game.

This comes despite the gaming world learning that motion control will play a large role with the Playstation 4. It is also assumed that the next Xbox will to look to maximise the use of Kinect.

Bach and DICE are resisting the use of motion control, despite companies “throwing money” at the studio to implement the tech in its game, Bach suggested.

“We are not interested in things that don’t make the game better,” Bach told Edge-Online.

“There are a lot of gimmicks – people throwing money at us – ‘can you implement support for this quirky control thing’. No, it doesn’t make the game better.”c

“We are extremely open to innovation, but if it’s a gimmick, there’s no point unless it adds value to the player. Touch screens used to be a gimmick, because no-one could get it to work until iPhone came out and used it right. It adds to the experience, and now everyone is doing it.

“To us it’s the same with motion control and perceptual gaming in general; if it adds, great. If it’s a gimmick, ignore it.”
