Morning News Wrap (4 Feb 2012)

Breakfast Wrap 01Good morning sport’s fans.  If you’re a South African sport’s fan, you’re probably thinking: “what’s so good about it?”  Well, Bafana Bafana may have lost in the AFCON Cup, but the Proteas are looking good in the cricket, and the SA Team in Battlefield 3’s PS3 World Nations Tournament beat the reigning champs France on Saturday.  Not bad considering they’re a “non-official” team hey Mr. Webster?

Fans may have unearthed a “major” multiplayer addition to Mass Effect 3 in the latest patch data.  The information comes from Clevernoob forum user TSA_383 (via Eurogamer) and fits with a post on Reddit which is an apparent product description for a new multiplayer pack called ‘Reckoning’.  The description reads: “The Reckoning Multiplayer Expansion brings six new never before seen co-op story missions to the game and new co-op gameplay modes. It provides four new maps to conquer and hazard variations of the Earth maps. It also enables reinforcement packs that offer new kits for the salarians, krogans, humans and volus. In-game reinforcement packs now include three new weapons (Chakram Launcher, Blood Pack Punisher and Adas Anti-Synthetic Rifle).”

Turn 10 has confirmed that new Forza Horizon DLC – Jalopnik Car Pack – will be available from 5 February.  The pack will include six new cars, and is “free” to Season Pass holders, or 400MS Points for everyone else.

PS3 Skyrim fans in the US can rejoice.  The long awaited DLC for the game has been dated for release.  There is no confirmation of European release dates for the three pieces of DLC, but US gamers can grab the packs from 12 February.  Dragonborn: Tuesday, 12 February.  Hearthfire: Tuesday, 19 February.  Dawnguard: Tuesday, 26 February.  All three add-ons will be marked down to 50% during their first week of release.

Keeping with Bethesda, the developer is hiring for an “unannounced next-gen console game”.  Keen to show off your 5 years of game development experience (on Xbox 360 and PS3 as a bonus), and “experience with DirectX 11”, then head over here and get applying

Next-gen rumour news.  The PS4 will now not be out this year in Europe.  Other sources, close to another site, are saying so.  Europe will apparently only see the consolel “early 2014”, according to a Edge.  This “delay” is due to “the complexities involved in European distribution”, Edge claims.  Sony has not confirmed any of this at all of course.

Current gen news now.  Xbox 360 life-to-date sales have hit 75.9 million.  Xbox Live members have also passed the 40 million mark – which may be any ratio of Gold to Free subscribers.  The figures were released by Microsoft in a summary of the company’s FY13 Q2 earnings results.

According to analysts, Xbox Live Arcade doubled its revenue in 2012.  XBLA made a whopping $290 million in 2012, according to research by analyst firm FADE.  It makes sense considering the high quality of titles available such as Minecraft, The Walking Dead and Trials Evo.

Industry analyst Arvind Bhatia predicts that Grand Theft Auto V could sell around 18 million copies and even take down the mighty Call of Duty in terms of chart dominance.  We really need to get ourselves more analysts and sources here at Zombiegamer.
