Morning News Wrap (24 Jan 2013)

Breakfast Wrap 04Welcome to Thor’s day.  Can you feel the electricity in the air?  No?  Neither can we, so let’s just head over to the news that Wednesday night brought.

A Crysis 3 multiplayer beta will kick off on 29 January and run until 12 February.  The open beta will be available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and will feature two team-based modes in Hunter and Crash Site, as well as two maps.

Dragon’s Dogma expansion Dark Arisen will arrive on 23 April in the US and 26 April in Europe for PS3 and Xbox 360.  The game – which adds a “huge” new area, missions, enemies and more, plus all of the content from the original game – will be available on disc and as a full game digital download.

The PlayStation Store sale has added some Rockstar Games to its deals.  Along with deals on Max Payne 3, GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, PS All-Stars Battle Royale and Final Fantasy games are also discounted from right now.

This week’s PSN update brings as its star attractions, The Cave (£9.99 / €12.99) and Demon’s Souls (£15.99 / €19.99).  There are also demos of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Dead Space 3, plus so much more, we suggest you head here to get the full skinny.

THQ is now a footnote in the history of games sadly.  After the dust settled following the auction, it’s assets have been divided to the rest of the industry, with only Vigil Games not being bid on at all.  However, following the auction it now appears Platinum Games might be keen on acquiring the Darksiders developer.  The following via Kotaku:

It would appear, that for Dead Space 3 at least, your PC is only as powerful as current-gen consoles, as the game on PC will be a direct port of the console version.  Other than than a few custom graphic options, it will not support Direct X 11, and will come with no additional features or enhancements.

Treyarch is hosting a double XP weekend for Black Ops 2 from 25 January until 28 January on PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.

And finally, we end with all things zombie.  A new gameplay walkthrough trailer for Dead Island Riptide.  We hate to see this happen to our brethren…
