EGE 2016_03

So what’s happening at the Electronics & Gaming Expo (EGE) this year from 29 to 31 July, along side the obvious vendors and exhibitors, cosplay, the new EGE LAN and the South African qualifier for ESWC CS: GO? Well, a few more things that we zombies will be doing, along with a number of our friends.

Much like last year, we plan to work with a number of other organisations to bring gamers a variety of tournaments and opportunities to play against each other for prizes, bragging rights and, well, mainly those two.

For EGE 2016, we will be with Clan Connection, Orena, TGN Racing Simulators, Cape Town Showdown and Weekly Level Up to make the EGE eSports Arena a varied and competitive space for all, and to kick things off we’re pleased to announce that there will be Call of Duty Black Ops 3 on PlayStation 4, FIFA 16, Street Fighter V, Mortal Kombat XL, Hearthstone, Halo 5 and racing. There is more coming, but that’s enough for now we think.

Some of the titles will feature pre-expo qualifiers, and continue at the expo, while some will be standalone events at the expo over the weekend. There will be a number of ‘King of the Hill’ tournaments, as well as a special school-goers only tournament on the Friday.

Details of all the events will follow – along with registrations – but for now, prepare yourself for the action.

Press Release:

EGE eSports Arena Details

EGE – Cape Town’s premier Electronics and Gaming Expo – has already revealed that it will be hosting the South African ESWC qualifier for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and is now pleased to reveal what else attendees can expect in the EGE eSports Arena.

Competitive titles planned for 2016 include Call of Duty Black Ops 3 on PlayStation 4, FIFA 16 on console, Hearthstone, Halo 5, Mortal Kombat XL and Street Fighter V, with more to be confirmed. All the titles will feature cash prizes for the competitors, and details of the tournaments will be announced via Zombiegamer.

Some titles will feature pre-EGE qualifiers, along with additional qualifying opportunities at EGE from 29 to 31 July. Call of Duty will feature both an online qualifier and the opportunity for teams to try again at a LAN tournament at EGE. FIFA 16 will feature a LAN qualifier prior to EGE to seed four players, while additional opportunities will be offered over the weekend at EGE. Halo 5 will see the top two teams from an online qualifier playing for the money on stage at EGE, while Mortal Kombat XL, Street Fighter V and Hearthstone will feature tournaments at EGE.

Details of the ticket prices and purchase options for the eSports will be revealed soon.

Additionally, on the Friday (29 July 2016) a special set of tournaments will be hosted for High School pupils. School goers who attend the expo on the Friday wearing their school uniform will be allowed free entry for the day, and will be entitled to compete in a FIFA 16 and Street Fighter V tournament for vouchers and product up for grabs. The tournaments will both be limited to 64 participants with the finals scheduled to be played on the eSports stage.

Alongside the formal tournaments will be a number of demo matches, fastest lap events and ‘King of the Hill’ tournaments open to all attendees of the expo at no additional charge. The King of the Hill tournaments will be open for a limited period of time and to a limited number of players who will compete for the longest running winning streak and prizes in the shape of vouchers and products. The opportunity to participate in new and tournament titles will hopefully encourage additional interest in tournaments in the future, but should also prove to be just a lot of fun.

For those attending the EGE LAN, additional mini-tournaments will be hosted with products up for grabs. Details of the titles and tournaments will be announced soon.
