Microsoft Secure the Rights to ‘Xbox 8′ Domains

Microsoft has secured the rights to several domains which they have been contesting with a resident of China.

Microsoft has been awarded favourably in two disputes filed with the National Arbitration Forum over the Xbox-related domains owned by one ‘Cheng Juan’, who formely secured the rights.

Fusible is reporting the news [as cited by Eurogamer] and point out that the move from Microsoft could be nothing more than a defensive IP protection measure, but one of the domain’s name could speculatively be related to that of the next Xbox.

Among the domains secured are the domain ‘Xbox 8′ related domains which  begs for speculation. The next generation of console from Microsoft has been code named ‘Durango’ and many have branded it as the Xbox 720.

Microsoft has secured the domains for XboxPhone.com, XboxTablet.com, XboxLiveTV.com, XboxCompanion.com, Xbox8.us and Xbox8.org. There remaining domain disputes that remain pending include Xboxliverewards.com, Xboxsports.com, Xboxsmartglass.com and Xboxmusic.com.

The only factor that throws this theory off is, as Fusible notes, that no complaint has been filed against the owners of Xbox8.com.
