Microsoft will invest nearly $700 million in a new data centre in Iowa, USA to support cloud services.

The new investment will take Microsoft’s total investment to almost $1 billion in the service’s future.

In a statement released to the Des Moines Register, Christian Belady, the general manager of Microsoft’s data centre services, explained that the expansion is to support the, “growing demand for Microsoft’s cloud services.”

While the data centre will support Microsoft’s entire portfolio of cloud services, Xbox Live is the primary reason for the investment.
