Of all the games being released this year, I honestly thought Mass Effect 3 would not be delayed. To say I’m disappointed might be the understatement of the year. Or were they simply afraid of Elder Scrolls…?
At the EA earnings call earlier today, EA boss John Riccitiello revealed that Mass Effect 3 will be pushed back a bit to further polish the game. “Essentially, step by step, [BioWare is] adjusting some of the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you’ll see at E3 that can put this into a genre equivalent of shooter-meets-RPG, and essentially address a far larger market opportunity than Mass Effect 1 did and Mass Effect 2 began to approach,” he said.
Following the news breaking, Bioware’s Facebook page confirmed that the game is now slated to arrive Q1 2012. Casey Hudson, executive producer for the series, writes: “Mass Effect 3 will be released in the first three months of 2012. The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations.”
