With the launch of Mortal Kombat 11 on 23 April, what would you consider the perfect companion product to go with it? Beer. Of course. In a very unique collaboration locally, Fokof Lager will be made available in limited edition cans to celebrate the game. Fokof Lager is the beer brand from the South African band Fokofpolisiekar.
There will be six different ‘Kollector cans’ featuring the characters Scorpion, Sonya Blade, Jonny Cage, Sub Zero, Jade and Raiden. The challenge will be to hunt down the randomly packed cans to complete your collection. Kind of like the spine-tearing, grown-up version of [collect ’em all] Tazos.
The limited edition cans will only total 1,000 cases (10,560 liters) and will be available from 23 April (the same day as the game releases, in case you needed reminding) at participating stores and online via YuppieChef.
Jaco Snakehead Venter (Fokof Lager and Fokofpolisiekar’s drummer): “This is our first MAJOR collaboration with an international brand and we are incredibly humbled by this opportunity.”
After 23 April, what’s next? [Yes, we saw what you tried to do there. – Undead Ed] On 9 May there will be an official launch party for the cans at the Fokof Bar in Pretoria. Alongside the beer will be a “super fun game night” featuring the members of Fokofpolisiekar. Additional information about the launch party will be made available via Fokof Lager and Fokof Bar’s social media.
On release, there will be a Fokof Lager vs Mortal Kombat 11 hamper valued at R9,000 up for grabs. To win the hamper, you will need to buy a 6-pack of gamer cans and keep an eye on Fokof Lager’s social media for more details about this competition.
The hamper includes:
- PlayStation 4 1TB Console
- 2 x Dual Shock 4 controllers
- 1 x Mortal Kombat™ 11 game
- Mortal Kombat™ 11 keychain
- Mortal Kombat™ 11 flatback cap
- Fokof Lager socks
- Fokofpolisiekar Droom Hoog Vinyl
- Fokofpolisiekar As Jy Met Vuur Speel Vinyl
This is not the first time the Fokof name has been associated with gaming. In 2017, the band performed live with Jack Parow at the grand finals of the Injustice 2 SA Cup in Pretoria.
