LG, the electronics giant, has issued a complaint to the US International Trade Commission which would see the importation and marketing of Sony’s PlayStation 3 to the US be banned. LG are arguing that Sony is allegedly infringing four separate patents relating to the playback of Blu-Ray discs.
GamesIndustry.biz received the documents regarding the topic by the Foss Patents blog which refer to the PS3 specifically. The documents also point out that these alleged infringements could also relate to other Blu-Ray players – referring to “certain electronic devices having a Blu-Ray Disc player and components thereof”.
Another article by Bloomberg, as pointed out by GamesIndustryBiz, shows that this is not an isolated case between the Japanese and Korean electronic ‘powerhouses.’ LG reportedly also filed a separate patent infringement complaint against Sony with regard to Bravia televsions. Sony in turn filed a patent infringement complaint against LG last December concerning “computer-implemented inventions.”
