The demo hit Xbox Live Marketplace yesterday and thankfully for me a certain P07H3AD ZA gifted me with a code required to download the 1.6gb demo. The demo gives you access to the single-player campaign, an arcade mode and even a multiplayer mode.
Kane & Lynch 2 thankfully features revamped shooting mechanics and is much better than before. The cover system is activated by pressing ‘A’ now and gone are the issues associated with the fiddly ‘sticky’ cover system that did not really work well with the previous title. In addition you can look forward to some new additions to the combat system, including using human shields and a throwing mechanism that lets you throw objects that can be considered weapons. When you are done with your human shield you can choose to execute or throw the person. Overall the mechanics are good, not excellent but they work and I would not complain too much there.
The presentation is an absolutely stunning idea that I have not seen before and really gives the game a tense atmosphere. The game looks like live footage – ‘YouTube-inspired’ visually and instantly submerged me into the game. The action was heightened by the well designed footage and it felt like I was in a reality tv ‘Cops’ programme.
The demo starts off with you being re-introduced to the characters with Lynch thinking back to some of their hair-raising experiences. Once you meet up with Kane you are quickly thrown into the action, taking cover, shooting-em-up’ and making your way out a building and down the chaotic streets of what looks like a Hong Kong. It is action packed!
Overall I am very chuffed with the demo and you can bet I am pre-ordering the retail game set to hits stores in September. If you want an off-beat and fresh shooter, keep your eye on this one.
A big thank you to P07H3AD ZA for the code!
