So far we have discussed a few topics of interest when creating a team (week 1 and week 2) which mainly focused on team chemistry and how to base your team. Well this week we are going to take it a step further – we are discussing the choice of formation. Formations can affect the cost of building your team quite drastically if you not careful or patient.
There are a variety of formations to choose from, each with strengths and weaknesses against other formations. The most popular of formations, from our own experiences, is formations that have 4 defenders, so your 4-3-1-2, 4-3-2-1, 4-5-1 etc. Other formations which can be seen often is the 3-5-2 and very rare ones are ones with 5 defenders like your 5-2-2-1 etc. With that said, formations also compliment your style of play. If you like to keep possession and have a solid defence then a formation of 4-5-1 would be great as the five midfielders will help you do so. If you enjoy a good attack, a formation with 3 players in front is a good option, such as 4-3-1-2, 4-3-3 and 4-1-2-1-2.
The expensive part comes in when you decide on the formation you want to start using. The rare formations such as 4-2-2-2, 4-4-2, 4-3-3 and 4-1-2-1-2 increase in price respectively. The prices range from 900+ coins for 4-2-2-2 formation cards to 4500+ coins for 4-1-2-1-2 formation cards. So if you were to have a starting eleven for a formation of 4-1-2-1-2 and needed formation cards it would cost you 49 500 coins for them, if they did not prefer the 4-1-2-1-2 formation. But never fail, there is away around this. When other gamers start building their teams, especially with the same formation, some of them tend to forget the alteration to formation of players and sell it at its average price as opposed to say the extra 4500 coins for changing their formation. So be on the look out for these.
Another tactic, which we aren’t to fond of, is basing your formation on the star players you want in your team. This at times can limit you to certain players especially at the beginning stages when your budget is a little low.
Overall, choose something that will help you in the long run. The formations we currently using are CtrlAltDelZA 4-3-1-2 and Mr MiLiTiA ZA 4-5-1. They suit out gaming styles and finding cards for them aren’t too expensive as well.
So last week we mentioned that we will be letting you in on some auction strategies we are trying. So far it has been quite an interesting journey and a time consuming one. There are quite a few out so we are going to have to keep you in suspense for another week as we are testing their capabilities to their full extent.
This article was clearly written by two players of FIFA and not one of the regular zombies, as kicking a ball around usually equates to limbs not remaining where they should. You can join CtrlAltDelZA and Mr MiLiTiA ZA again next week as they take you closer to being a pro in the world of virtual football known as FIFA 13. Or you can join the zombies on the substitute’s bench again.
