Gaming News Wrap [7 May 2013]

Breakfast Wrap 02It was a quiet day for gaming news yesterday.  A fair portion of the world (well, the UK at least) was on holiday, but look, there’s still enough here to sate your appetite.

Next gen rumours.  The next Xbox will apparently not be required to be “always online”, according to a leaked internal memo allegedly from within Microsoft.   According to the memo: “Durango is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today’s Internet… There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should ‘just work’ regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game.”  Hmm.  We’ll just wait for 21 May and Microsoft’s big reveal shall we?

Sony is set to make some “intriguing game announcements” this week.  And that’s all SCEE blog manager Fred Dutton wrote about that.

If the only reason you didn’t download Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead episodic game was due to it eating your limited bandwidth in South Africa, you will be happy to know that distributor Apex Interactive will be bringing the retail version of the game (featuring all five episodes) to our shores on 31 May.  The game will cost R299.95 for PC and R399.95 for PS3 and Xbox 360.

EA has secured the exclusive rights to develop ‘core’ Star Wars titles.  According to the announcement by EA and Disney, the deal will see EA develop Star Wars titles for “a core gaming audience”, with games “spanning all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres”. [via CVG]

Bethesda looks about ready to reveal its new game, which is maybe a shooter.  The publisher tweeted out an image collage, while Gamespot showed off two additional screenshots.

The ‘Krieg the Psycho’ DLC for Borderlands 2 will be available from 14 May for XBL and PSN in the US.  The European release is likely to be the following day.  The DLC will not be part of the Season Pass and will cost you $9.99 or 800MS Points as part of the Psycho Pack. [via Eurogamer]

It appears that the movie Pacific Rim will be getting a tie-in video game.  A listing on the Australian Classification Board indicates it is being developed by WWE franchise developer Yuke’s.  No publisher is listed, and the game is listed as “multi platform”. [via CVG]

Lucid Games (formed by ex Bizarre Creations staff) may be planning to announce or reveal their new game around the time of the next Xbox announcement on 21 May.  They actually said on their Facebook Page: “So yeah, Mid-May will be interesting for the studio. We have some exciting updates coming. Stay tuned!” [via Joystiq]

GTA V has been listed for PC on a German retail site.  Both the German wing of Amazon and retailer Games Only have the game listed for release on PC. [via Gematsu]

Meet the Infected in the latest video from The Last of Us.  Are you ready?

It’s Silas Greaves, and his story, in this latest trailer for Call of Juarez: Gunslinger.  The game is out on 22 May via XBLA, PSN and PC download.

Let’s end with some undead related news.  The apocalypse will start tomorrow at around about 13: 23.  Depends if we’re on time or not.  Of course, that does mean you’ll all be annihilated by the time Plants Vs Zombies 2 arrives sometime this July.
