Michael Pachter reckons former Xbox One boss Don Mattrick was the “front-runner” for the EA CEO position, leaving EA to go “back to square one” in their search now that Mattrick is joining Zynga – which will net him $19.3 million in the first year plus $50 million compensation of three years. Meanwhile, it seems the new Xbox boss at Microsoft is likely to be current Windows boss Julie Larson-Green. The move is apparently part of a wider Microsoft shake-up. [via CVG]

A “global” Halo 4 championship has been announced. If you switched off at that point, how about we mention there’s $500,000 in prizes on the line? Sony has kicked off an “Apocalyptic” sale on the PlayStation Network, which offers discounts on end-of-the-world themed content from now until the end-of-the-world. Or 17 July in this case. Some decent titles available including Dead Space games. See the full list here.

The EU PSN Store has been updated and along with the new PSN Plus free games (Battlefield 3 and more), a few new titles and additional content is available for your enjoyment – including the Gran Turismo 6 demo. Full list here.

Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 augmented-reality game The PlayRoom – which was shown off at E3 – will come pre-loaded on the console. Free stuff for the win. [via Eurogamer]

Sony has released a mobile app which will allow you to top up your PSN wallet while sitting in a boardroom meeting trying to fight off boredom. Purchases will be added to your cellphone bill. [via CVG]

The open-world Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive utilises cloud but isn’t always-online according to Insomniac’s Ted Price. He said that: “Our intent is that you will be able to play the single-player without an online connection,” but that the “game will be updated with content we expect that all players will want. You won’t be able to access that without an online connect.” [via Game Informer]

Sony has canned the long dormant Vita and PS3 dungeon crawler Warrior’s Lair. No reason was given for the cancellation. [via IGN]

Remember that game called Red Dead Redemption? Well we still do. It’s awesome. Rockstar has announced that starting today (4 July, the US Independence Day) and going until 7 July, you can earn triple XP in the game, as well as in Max Payne 3.
