Gaming News Wrap [31 May 2013]

News Wrap 05Yes. It’s that time of the week again. Friedbrainday. We can give you a pretty good recipe for it actually.

EA has begun to waive the fees charged for their online pass, which charged second-hand games buyers when accessing multiplayer features. The publisher will “discontinue Online Pass for our new EA titles,” and are “in the process of eliminating it from all our existing EA titles as well.” [via CVG]

The first batch of DLC for Crysis 3 arrives next week in the form of ‘The Lost Island’ multiplayer pack. The DLC will cost 1200 MSP (on Xbox 360) $14.99 on PS3 and PC, and will contain four new maps, two additional multiplayer modes (Frenzy and Possession) and new weapons. The DLC – which is out 4 June – takes players away from New York City Liberty Dome to a small island in the Philippines 200 miles from Ling Shan – setting for the original Crysis and Crysis Warhead. The PS4 is “first and foremost a video game console”. That’s the words of Sony boss Kaz Hirai. He is keen to point out that the “most important thing we need to do is agree and understand that the PS4 is a great video game console that appeals to video gamers. If we miss that part, I don’t think we get the initial establishment of the console. That formula has worked for us with all our consoles, including the PS3.” Non-gaming content is not off the agenda, it’s just something that Sony will “reveal and talk about in the coming months”. It seems both the Xbox One and PS4 are doing pretty well with pre-orders. ShopTo, Grainger Games and The Hut all seem to be reporting “overwhelming pre-order response”, being “inundated with pre-order[s]” and other such catchy blurb. More on CVG.

Take-Two has really high expectations for GTA V. The publisher expects the game to sell 18 million units in its first year. No modesty there then. [via Eurogamer]

The Trophies for the campaign component of The Last of Us have hit the internet. If you don’t mind spoilers, you can see them here.

Killer is Dead ‘Premium’ Edition has been announced. Whether it’s coming to SA is unknown, but it will come with a reversible cover and DLC. It will cost the same as the standard edition (so why…  *sigh* nevermind…) and comes with a code to download the ‘Beauty & The Beast & The Lingerie’ mission pack, as well as the ‘Temptation of Miss Vampire’ mission, an additional episode and a reversible cover.

Expect a new game announcement from Double Fine sometime today. That is all.

The first developer diary for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has been released.

It’s the official teaser trailer for PES 2014.

A new trailer for the PS3 exclusive Rain has been released.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is coming to the iPad. But it is still to be officially announced. However, a review of the game by IGN should be all the confirmation needed. **UPDATE** Eurogamer has said that the game is now available in the App Store for £6.99 / $9.99. It weighs in at a 1.98GB download.

Limbo will be out for the PS Vita next week. It will launch on PSN next Tuesday, 5 June in the US, at $14.99, and the following day in Europe for €12.99/£9.99.

Let’s end with some crazy. The boxart for Saints Row IV has been revealed.
