Games

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection has a massive 16GB day one patch for the Xbox One version of the game and a 8.3GB patch for the PS4 version. The Xbox One version sees 3GB for Borderlands 2 and 13GB for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The size of the patch does seem to bring (along with bug fixes) additional content. [More…]

A patch for Battlefield Hardline will most likely focus on weapon balancing, along with a few other changes. Details have started to appear on the game’s forum.
Double XP is happening this weekend for Battlefield Hardline. From now until 30 March you can rank up at double the pace. EA has also announced Battlefest – “a full month of Hardline in-game happenings, competitions, Double XP events and more.”

The next Destiny update will increase the vault space so that players can store 24 armour pieces, 36 weapons, and 24 item stacks. However, on PS3 and Xbox 360, there’s a consequence in that players on those platforms will no longer be able to compare their items within the vault. [More…]

Some details of the Harley Quinn pre-order DLC for Batman Arkham Knight have surfaced. The DLC is set in the lead-up to the events of the main game, and players will play as Harley and battle (with a baseball bat) inside the Blüdhaven Police Department to rescue Poison Ivy.

Neverwinter MMO is now available for pre-download on Xbox One. The free-to-play game (which needs an Xbox Live Gold subscription) releases on 31 March.

Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious is now available for download on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The game is currently free to download for all until 10 April. The Xbox 360 version weighs in at 2.22GB, while the Xbox One version is around 15GB.

Codemasters has announced F1 2015 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC for release on 12 June. A brand new game engine, updated championship season and pro season modes, as well as improved physics and handling are all promised.

It would appear that Rainbow Six Siege is being released on 16 October according to a (now altered) listing on the GameStop Italy site. The date has now been changed to “To be determined”, but others had already grabbed a screenshot of the original listing.

Sales & Discounts

April’s Games with Gold have been announced, and it’s double the usual number of ‘free’ titles than normal. On Xbox One, Child of Light and Pool Nation FX (which only releases on 1 April) will be available for Gold members. On Xbox 360, Gears of War Judgment and Terraria are available until 16 April, and then Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag  and Army of Two The Devil’s Cartel become available. [More…]

Consoles & Hardware

The latest PS4 update (2.50) appears to be causing a few issues with a few games. Killzone: Shadow Fall has some issues when the suspend/resume feature is in use, while Bloodborne works with suspend/resume, but only in offline mode.

Industry

A research firm (SuperData) has suggested that the next Call of Duty will be Black Ops 3 and that there is a new Resident Evil game expected this year. Other less qualified researchers (not unlike us) have suggested that the new Call of Duty may actually be World at War 2. So take the SuperData suggestion with a pinch of salt.

Secondary schools in Northern Ireland will be getting a version of MineCraft for free to use in classrooms. Pretty sure there’s a joke or two about building blocks for the future in there somewhere. [More…]

eSports

The recent ESL One event which featured CS: GO and a $250,000 prize pool saw a number of records broken. Records tumbled with a peak concurrent viewership of 1,012,745 (up almost 150% since the previous ESL event), and the number of unique viewers hit 8,785,740 over the four days. Ironcast is now available on Steam for £9.99 / €12.99 / $14.99 and will also be released for PS4, PS3 and Xbox One later this year. The game is a hybrid of jewel-matching and turn-based strategy.
