Breakfast Wrap 03Good morning. These days appear to be blurring into one, making it feel like the longest day (or week) of a lifetime. We’ll make it feel a little better with these titbits of gaming news.

Games

The games on special for today only in the Xbox 360 Ultimate Game Sale are: Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, F1 2013, Farming Simulator, Lost Planet 2, Darksiders II, Soul Calibur II HD Online, Hell Yeah! and Fruit Ninja Kinect. The games are discounted by between 50% and 90%. [More on Major Nelson]

To go along with the Xbox 360 Ultimate Game Sale, there is still the regular ‘Deal of the Week‘ on Xbox Live. Ryse is available at 33% off on Xbox One, while the Xbox 360 offerings are substantially older titles. Ridge Racer, Family Guy, Persona 4 Arena and more are available at discounts of between 50% and 75%. [More on Major Nelson]

The US PlayStation Store update has happened and it brings new goodies including Remember Me (PS3 Instant Game Collection), Street Fighter X Tekken (Vita Instant Game Collection), Strider, Earth Defense Force 2025, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag Freedom Cry and PSone classic Mr. Driller. If you pre-order Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 via the PlayStation Network you will get a copy of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD for free. The offer is valid until 28 February – the day Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 releases.

Thief will run at a native 1080p resolution on PS4 and a native 900p on Xbox One. Both will run at 30fps. According to Square Enix: “You really need good eyes to see the difference.” [More on Eurogamer]

A series of “massive significance” for the PS4 will be revealed on the cover of next month’s Official PlayStation Magazine. And that’s all they are saying… [via AllGamesBeta]

Kingdom Come: Deliverance – the Kickstarter funded RPG – will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One, as well as (previously announced) PC. [More on CVG]

An update for the Xbox 360 edition of Minecraft is inbound and will bring some of the major features from the PC version. [More on Eurogamer]

Activision has announced that Skylanders will now be an annualised franchise with figurines being released (staggered) throughout the year. [More on Polygon]

Industry

A new mandatory PS4 firmware update has been launched. Version 1.61 brings no new features but improves stability.

5.3 million PS4s have been sold worldwide since the console launched on 29 November 2013. [More on CVG]

A GDC survey has revealed that the PS4 is the most popular console with US developers, with 20% indicating their next game would be on Sony’s platform. However, 52% of the developers said their next game would be out on PC. [More on CVG]

Cliff Bleszinski has told Gamasutra that he has had it with disc-based games, going as far as to say that he will “never make another disc-based game for the rest of [his] career”. He also said in the interview that Gears of War was not quite as ‘Band of Brothers with monsters’ as he had planned, saying Band of Brothers is “well-done and emotional, telling the story of the Greatest Generation and what they did in the war. Yet somehow we [with Gears of War] landed on ‘Predator,'” with the dialogue slipping into “Schwarzenegger territory”.

Who says playing games is pointless? The winner of the Welsh GT Academy from 2011 would be an example to prove otherwise. Jann Mardenborough will be racing in the 2014 GP3 series for Red Bull-owned Arden International Motorsport. Now go show your parents that… [More on BBC]

However, OfficialPSMag has got their hands-on with The Order: 1886.

The $14.99 standalone Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry is now available on the US PS Store, and will be available today on the EU PS Store. And here’s a developer diary to celebrate.

Naughty Dog has released Grounded: Making of the Last of Us for free via Amazon Video in US’s video streaming service, while those outside US will be able to watch it when it is posted on the PlayStation YouTube channel “very soon”.

Two new pieces of DLC have arrived for Forza 5 on Xbox One. The free ‘Road America’ track is now available to use in Career, Rivals Mode, and multiplayer lobbies. The other DLC is for Car Pass Owners, who will also receive five new cars as part of the Road America Booster Pack, including a 1968 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 and 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1. The game is also the fastest-selling racing game in Xbox history according to Microsoft.

Two trailers for the new car packs available for Need for Speed Rivals. The first is a Ferrari pack, and the second features Jaguar.
