Games

It’s taken just eight years and three months (and some more days) to see the first gamer hit 1 million Gamerscore. Raymond Cox, aka Stallion83, reached the milestone by earning the “I liked a Challenge” award in Titanfall. Congratulations. Now go play outside a bit. [More on Eurogamer]

Details about Battlefield 4‘s ‘Naval Strike’ DLC expansion have been revealed in a Q&A session with lead gameplay designer Gustav Halling. Balancing the water to land for the maps was one of the biggest challenges the team faced when working on the DLC.

Respawn Entertainment is planning to go after any cheaters found in Titanfall. They tweeted: “Finding cheaters in Titanfall? So are we. We’re logging them now and they will be rooted out shortly.” So beware you evildoers.

Titanfall will be getting a mobile companion app, private lobby support and improved matchmaking in the future. But don’t expect bigger than 6v6 lobbies any time soon. [More on CVG]

Respawn is looking into releasing Titanfall for Mac, and “are talking to Aspyr”. Aspyr are Mac specialists. [via Twitter]

The delayed US PS Store update is now live. Dark Souls II is the big release for the PS3, while pre-orders of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes ($19.99) is another draw. There’s plenty more games, add-ons and extras available – full details here.

Ex-Walking Dead developers have announced a new game called Firewatch. The game is a “single-player, first-person exploration mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness,” and is the debut game from Campo Santo. [More on the official website]

EA, Oculus VR, Panasonic, and “countless more” have announced the Immersive Technology Alliance – a re-branding of th Stereoscopic 3D Gaming Alliance. The organization aims to help each member meet the needs of the augmented reality and virtual reality industries. [More on CVG]

The US gaming industry saw a year-on-year growth in February 2014, with the PS4 leading hardware sales over Xbox One “by a narrow margin”. More numbers can be found here.

Platform fanboyism is unhealthy according to Microsoft’s Phil Spencer. And we tend to agree with him. However, if we had said: “being a fan of Xbox doesn’t mean you can’t be a fan of something else,” we wouldn’t have been quoted by others for their articles… [More on CVG]

The movie for The Last of Us will be an adaption of the game rather than a new story set in the universe. But don’t expect the movie anytime soon as they’re still “brainstorming some stuff” for the movie. [More on IGN]

eSports

The groups for this year’s Call of Duty Championship have been revealed, and for South Africa’s qualifying team, RiZe Gaming, it’s not an easy one. They have US champions Strictly Business to contend with, as well as Sublime and Vitality Returns from the EU. The rest of the groups all feature at least one US team, so many will be expected to make it through to the knockout phase of the tournament which boasts – if you need reminding – a one million dollar prize pool. A worrying tale of match fixing and attempted suicide has hit the League of Legends pro circuit. Something that took almost a century to happen in “mainstream” sport appears to have reared its ugly head in a fraction of the time in eSports.
