Games

The Last of Us has been confirmed for the PS4.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a real thing and is in development at 2K Australia with supervisionfrom Gearbox. The game – set between Borderlands and Borderlands 2 – is set on the moon off Pandora, and focuses on the rise of Handsome Jack from Borderlands 2. The game will hit PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this autumn (northern hemisphere). As to why it’s not on the newer consoles, Randy Pitchford suggests there are “fewer Xbox Ones and PlayStation 4s than we sold copies of Borderlands 2.”

A Killer Instinct update weighing in at a mammoth 6.8GB has been released. The update introduces Fulgore as a playable character, as well as an Arcade mode, eight player online lobbies and spectator functionality.

Sony has announced H1Z1 – a zombie-survival MMO. In it, you are “an apocalypse survivor who is in a world that is filled with zombies. A world! Not just a little tiny server.” The game will be heading to the PS4 and PC, with the latter being available in 4-6 weeks via Steam Early Access for $20. The game will be free-to-play. A Dark Souls 2 update has begun rolling out. The update should be available worldwide on Friday. The patch (1.03) introduces numerous fixes alongside menu, interface and controller tweaks. [More on CVG]

The PlayStation Store Easter Sale has kicked off, and features discounts on PS3, PS Vita and Cross-Buy titles. The full list is available on the PlayStation Blog.

Secret Ponchos will be heading to the PC along with the previously confirmed release for PS4. A beta version of the spaghetti-western-inspired downloadable online shooter will be available on Steam Early Access in the summer.

Hardware

Sony started VR adoption with its PS Move, or “VR wands in disguise.” [More on Edge]

Amazon vice president of gaming Mike Frazzini told Time that the Amazon Fire TV sits in the “big gap in the middle” between triple-A and casual gamers.

You want a treadmill to go with your VR headset? The Virtuix Omni is for you then, and will start shipping in July at a price of $499 excluding shipping.

Industry

Blizzard has applied for a trademark on ‘Overwatch’, indicating an unannounced game is in the works. [More on CVG]

Layoffs have hit Sega‘s London office. Or as they said to Polygon, they’re “consolidating certain functions of the Sonic and Mobile departments within Sega of America”.

The mobile version of Minecraft has sold over 21 million copies across iOS, Android, and other portable devices.

Mobile gamers don’t appear to play their games for very long. Two-thirds put down a game and never pick it up again after the first 24 hours, while 53% of spending is done within the first week of a game being available. [More on Re/code]
