Every week we do this. It’s not to get to know you any better to be honest, it’s to see who of you are the biggest threat. We may have identified one here. Our elite zombie hit squad has been dispatched. Thank you for participating in the extinction of the human race…
Go ahead. Introduce yourself. Don’t be shy.
Hi I’m Robin A.K.A Xergxes7 (Xerxes/zergzees). Yeah people tend to struggle when they first see my alias. I’m a gamer by night, and uhm, sleeper by day?
What’s you platform of choice? Why?
PC: interchangeable, upgradeable, easy to maintain. I have my reasons for all platforms though. I like to play sports and racing games on consoles due to the controller’s suitability. Yet I much prefer to play games that require typing and looking around a lot with a PC as the mouse can be a nice extension of your eyes/neck.
Can you remember the first time you ‘gamed’?
If it wasn’t versing my gran in Sonic on the sega genesis, city runner on TV games with my brothers, playing Fifa 98 and Grand Theft Auto as my first PC games. My most memorable first “gaming” experience was when my cousin took me to a tiny arcade in the middle of Benoni and we spent a good few hours trying to crack the high-scores on the Street Fighter TV arcade.
How long have you been gaming?
Since my thumbs knew they were opposable. It started with TV games I was too young to remember the name of, but I do remember a Fred Flintstone lookalike running fast in a speed gathering side scroller similar to Mario bros.
When do you think you’ll stop gaming?
If some crazy religion takes over the world and outlaws it, I might, but would that really happen? [No. But a zombie apocalypse will. – Undead Ed]
Are you a serious gamer? Or do you enjoy a laugh?
It all depends on the game and when I am playing it. If it’s for stats, yeah I can sometimes be an achievement whore, I play serious. Dota 2, BF3 etc I’m all for playing properly, I do see these as eSports platforms though and enjoy the competitive side. However if you place me in the middle of Takistan Life an Arma 2 mod, I’m that guy annoying the cops at the roadblocks and causing senseless car chases by being a random decoy for people robbing the bank.
Single player or multiplayer?
Multiplayer. Learning how people behave in games and then countering their behaviour to win is something I enjoy thoroughly. AI gets repetitive and dull. The mental aspect of games and eSports is something I really love. However if I am keen for a story of the sorts I will gladly play a solid single player game.
Is playing online important to you?
Yes. The online world of gaming is one that brings down all barriers of geographic location. It allows everyone to enjoy something together in ways that could never have been imagined when the first card maker decided to print out more copies of his cards so everyone around the world could enjoy his game.
Are you a member of a clan? Who are they and why?
I am the Sector 17 Gaming’s PC division leader and serve under Coach yankovsky (Charles Greeff) who oversees the entire operation. We are based in Port Elizabeth and are a clan dedicated to the professional aspect of competitive gaming. We want gamers to be able to compete in levels equal to the highest achieved Olympic athlete without the “politics” of the everyday gaming clan. We are dedicated to unity and look out for each other. We see the future that eSports has to offer and are dedicated to making it a good one.
Favourite game currently?
This one has to be Kerbel Space Program. My mind was blown away the first time I played this. I’m also a MASSIVE space nerd. If I could work as a drill operator on a mining operation based on an asteroid or other planet one day my life would be complete.
Do you have any hobbies outside of gaming? What?
The human condition you could say. I spend a lot of time looking up current affairs, politics, scientific progression, environmental affairs etc. I like to know what humanity is doing to improve itself and what we are doing to work on many of our wasteful habits.
You’re stranded on a desert island and a genie grants you five items. Name them:
A game: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
A CD: Bob Marley – Exodus
A movie or TV series: Every Star Trek Episode ever.
An organic life form: Hemp Plant
Something edible or drinkable: Tomato
What’s the most embarrassing or worst game you’ve ever bought or received as a gift?
Some sort of Medivac Vietnam game. R60 at CNA. The flight mechanics were laughable and the combat engine makes Wolfenstein look like Frostbite 2.
If you were a game designer, describe your ultimate game design.
An open universe with an RTS overview and FPS battle mode. With hordes of armies and space fleets battle-ing for points stretching over an entire solar system. Fight in star fighters to secure a mineral base on one of Jupiter’s moon’s to invading enemy bases on Mars. A real time battle with integrated AI battle strategists that records your behaviour to handle the rest whilst you sleep. Online multiplayer integration will be the biggest highlight as this game will be MMO focused with up to 1000 Real time players per system.
The zombie apocalypse has happened. You’re facing down a ravenous zombie horde (which may or may not include members of ZG in bikinis). What weapon do you grab?
My favourite Light Machine Gun, the M240B, upgraded with fore grip, extended magazine and Kobra Sights. .45 Calibre holes in all those zombie heads will be in order. [Woah. What did we do to you? – Undead Ed]
In the aforementioned zombie apocalypse you humans are all toast. Become a turncoat and assist the superior zombies or stay with the soon to be wiped out human resistance?
I dedicate most my time in DayZ to cleaning out the infected. The human race will always adapt, improve and outlast any foe.
Thanks for taking the time to answer our silly questions. What game are you off to play now that you’re done?
After spending the day disarming bandits that were roaming Chernogorsk in DayZ, Its time to go get in more Dota 2 and work on improving my game.
Here’s some screenshots for the lulz…
