You might have noticed that there’s been a little bit of a theme the last few weeks in our Gamer of the Week feature. Yes, they’ve all been zombie haters generally. But it’s more of a case of the female of the species being more deadly than the male…
Go ahead. Introduce yourself. Don’t be shy.
What’s up ZombieGamer! My name is Rachel, or Rachy, to my friends. I’m a die-hard Battlefield fan, and I play it so often that I’m actually ranked #1 overall in South Africa on the PS3, with several other local and international top ranks. My most favorite being ranked #7 worldwide for Melee Kills on PS3!
What’s your platform of choice? Why?
As much as I would love to play on PC and see how drastic the gameplay difference is, I would still prefer the Playstation 3 – mainly because all my friends are already on it. I would hope to try out and maybe move on to the PS4, though.
Can you remember the first time you ‘gamed’?
I can remember playing on Nintendo, more specifically Duck Hunt and using a plastic gun to shoot defenseless digital ducks. So I started very young, my brother was a console collector and he would usually force me to play with him. From platform games like Sonic the Hedgehog to fighting games like Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter.
How long have you been gaming?
Even though I have gamed throughout my life, I have only really gotten back into it for the past 3 years, give or take.
When do you think you’ll stop gaming?
Not anytime soon! I have so much I’d like to pursue in this industry. It’s going to take quite a lot to try and stop me!
Are you a serious gamer? Or do you enjoy a laugh?
I take gaming very seriously. It’s more of a profession for me – a profession that I put loads of hard work into and still find time to enjoy it. I upload videos on YouTube regularly, building the #1 gaming channel in SA – RachyBattlebot for those who want to check it out! I created the only local gaming network on YouTube as well, called GameBot. That gives people licenses to upload gameplay content to their channel for monetization.
Singleplayer or multiplayer?
Multiplayer no question!! Nothing beats the adrenaline you get from beating another person possibly half way across the world. As opposed to playing a predictable bot.
Is playing online important to you?
Absolutely! Playing online for me is a social get together. Meet up with the guys and girls, maybe having a few drinks, and lots of laughs in the process. That being said, it hits hard when the internet goes down!
Are you a member of a clan? Who are they and why?
I’m part of an amazing all girl clan called “GiRL GaMErS SWaG”. Brought together by Steph1401, we’re a clan of both local and international girls that wanted to join in and support females in the gaming community. We keep it social and have a lot of fun with some occasional clan matches!
Favourite game currently?
Yikes! I’ve been playing so many things lately! The BF4 Beta has just ended otherwise it would be that hands down. And even after the 2 years it’s been out, I’m still playing Battlefield 3! Dedication or addiction? I’ll let you decide! But until Battlefield 4 is released, I’m going to give my fav to GTA V Online.
Do you have any hobbies outside of gaming? What?
My hobbies usually involve gaming. But I still enjoy things like photography, or designing. Even watching some TV when I get a chance.
You’re stranded on a desert island and a genie grants you five items. Name them:
A game: Battlefield 3 – for now!
A CD: What? People still use these?
A movie or TV series: Get him to the Greek – and pray Russell Brand gets stranded with me.
An organic life form: A puppy – So I can eat it. Wait, no.
Something edible or drinkable: Any booze will do! I’ll rehydrate later.
What’s the most embarrassing or worst game you’ve ever bought or received as a gift?
I’ve gotten Little Big Planet 1 & 2 as gifts. I not so secretly love them, but apparently it’s embarrassing!
If you were a game designer, describe your ultimate game design.
I love the FPS genre. I’d say something like Grand Theft Auto meets Battlefield lol. Fighting a war, yet protecting the hookers. BattlePimp.
The zombie apocalypse has happened. You’re facing down a ravenous zombie horde (which may or may not include members of ZG in bikinis). What weapon do you grab?
A strap on. That will keep any man away, dead or alive. [You sure about that? We’ve met some weird humans in our lifetime. – Undead Ed]
In the aforementioned zombie apocalypse you humans are all toast. Become a turncoat and assist the superior zombies or stay with the soon to be wiped out human resistance?
I’ll stay human, and then kill the people that piss me off.
Thanks for taking the time to answer our silly questions. What game are you off to play now that you’re done?
I will probably need a relaxing break after this, then it will be off to GTA 5 Online!
